The market is highly competitive with all the players trying to gain the maximum market share. Frequent changes in government policies, intense competition, and aviation regulations are the key factors that impact the global market growth. The vendors compete based on cost, product quality, reliability, and aftermarket services. It is crucial for the players to offer cost-efficient and high-quality airport surveillance radar systems to succeed in an intensely competitive market environment.
Market Share Analysis
The leading players, as mentioned above, are dominating the market due to their advanced products offering, high industry experience, and geographic reach. These players may establish their presence worldwide through strategic partnerships and acquisitions during the forecast period. Players with access to better technologies can develop unique and innovative products, which could render the competitors’ offerings obsolete. The competitive environment in the market is likely to intensify further due to the rising number of contracts and expansions.
Major Growth Strategies In The Global Airport Surveillance Radar Market
Threat of New Entrants
The global airport surveillance radar market is expected to grow at a significant pace during the forecast period. However, the need for high investments and difficulty in forming a client base deter the entry of new vendors in the market to a certain extent. Moreover, the technological know-how required for radar system manufacturing is high as present market players are continuously developing products to enhance safety for passengers. The eminent companies in the global airport surveillance radar market such BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Thales Group, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Raytheon Company, and L3Harris Technologies, Inc. have established customer bases and a wide geographic reach, making it difficult for new entrants to achieve economies of scale, which the leading players already possess. These factors are expected to result in a low threat of new entrants in the global airport surveillance radar market during the review period.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers
The capital and technological requirements for manufacturing radar systems are very high; hence, there are few material and component suppliers in the market. Manufacturers only select raw material and component suppliers that are reliable and offer guaranteed quality and performance. Thus, manufacturers cannot easily switch between suppliers as the switching cost is high and companies tend to enter into long-term contracts with suppliers. Moreover, the risks associated with the quality of components and materials is high with new suppliers. Due to these factors, the bargaining power of suppliers in the global airport surveillance radar market is projected to be moderate.
Bargaining Power of Buyers
The buyers in the global airport surveillance radar market are defense and commercial end users. There are a number of buyers in the global airport surveillance radar market. However, these buyers are highly reliant on successful and established manufacturers that provide radar systems. Moreover, there is moderate product differentiation in the market. Hence, the bargaining power of buyers in the global airport surveillance radar market is projected to be low.
Threat of Substitutes
LiDAR sensors are the only alternative for the radar system at present. LiDAR technology is more effective in long-distance applications than radar. Furthermore, LiDAR systems are more efficient in extreme weather conditions as they are not affected by conditions such as rain or low-lying clouds. However, the accuracy and precision of the radar system over short distances are high as compared to LiDAR sensors. Hence, the threat of substitutes in the global airport surveillance radar market is projected to be moderate during the assessment period.
Rivalry
There is intense competition among the existing players in the market, with manufacturers investing heavily in the research and development of high-quality, advanced, and cost-effective systems. Moreover, these companies are collaborating with key industry players to provided combined solutions and increase their global presence and market share. Furthermore, due to the increase in defense expenditure and the development of new & existing airports, the rivalry for market share is set to increase. Thus, the rivalry in the market is projected to be high during the review period.

Analytical insights on Airport Surveillance Radar Market covering market dynamics, competitive landscape, and strategic outlook.
The Airport Surveillance Radar Market market is projected to reach $1.99B by 2025, growing at 6.5% CAGR. The Primary Radars segment holds the largest share.
The global airport surveillance radar market is growing at a rapid rate due to the increase in defense expenditure and the development of new & existing airports. However, the high costs of installation and operation are expected to hamper the growth of the market during the forecast period.
Globally, military spending has increased significantly in recent years. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), global military expenditure rose by 2.6% to approximately USD 1.82 trillion from 2017 to 2018. During the same period, China and India increased military spending by 5.0% and 3.1%, respectively. Furthermore, India overtook the UK to become the fifth-largest defense spender in the world. Moreover, other countries have also announced plans to invest in advanced technologies and are focusing on expanding, modernizing, and enhancing the operational capabilities of their armed forces.
Factors such as a focus on reducing the illegal entry of criminals through land, air, and water and the need to combat drug cartels are pushing governments to strengthen their defense capabilities through the adoption of systems such as radar sensors. Military agencies are investing in developing advanced radar systems for surveillance of military airbases. For instance, the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has developed a new radar sensor that can capture real-time video through clouds to take uninterrupted live video of targets on the ground and air.
Likewise, for instance, Australia’s Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group signed two contracts with Airbus Defense and Space to equip and support nine military and civil/military Australian airfields with the advanced and most powerful airport surveillance sensors. These sensors include one Fixed Defense Air Traffic Control Surveillance Sensors (FDATCSS) and ten ASR-NG (Airport Surveillance Radar - Next Generation) radars, which enhanced the surveillance capability of Australian National Air Traffic Management and also contributed to the achievement of Air Battle Management missions.
Hence, the increase in military spending is expected to drive the growth of the airport surveillance radar market during the review period.
The integration of the radar system with GPS can improve the accuracy of navigating and tracking of unwanted system signals. Along with GPS technology, radar systems also have deployed advanced material, digital signal processors, solid-state modules, and complex A-D converters that help in obtaining real-time information to detect targets automatically in dark and remote areas. For instance, PureTech Systems, a computer software company, implemented the GPS technology in radar systems to ensure efficient surveillance in military and defense locations. GPS technology in the radar system can offer accurate and reliable surveillance and navigation in outdoor and remote environments. Therefore, the radar system integrated with GPS technology will help military forces and civil authorities to determine immediate and accurate positioning and management. Thus, the integration of GPS technology in radar systems is expected to offer lucrative growth opportunities for the growth of the market.
The initial cost of radar sensors is high, which, in turn, increases the price of the entire system. Furthermore, radar systems tend to have higher maintenance costs as they require trained technicians. The limited availability of such resources in developing nations further increases the cost. The manufacturing of components used in radar sensor systems such as antennas, duplexers, transmitters, receivers, and video amplifiers is also expensive.
Moreover, radar systems are implemented with frequency bands such as S-band, X-band, V-band, Ku-band, Ka-band, and others. These bands require high power to radiate and amplify the electromagnetic pulses to obtain highly reliable and accurate results. Also, the global market has witnessed a rise in the need for Ka-band that offers higher satellite capacity, frequency bandwidth, and high throughput beams provided by the frequency band. However, the cost of the Ka-band is high owing to the expensive microwave power component used to radiate the electromagnetic pulse. These factors are expected to hamper the growth of the global airport surveillance radar market during the forecast period.
Near-term growth will likely concentrate in modular bioreactor lines and closed-system media workflows that shorten validation cycles while preserving batch traceability.
Partnerships between CDMOs and instrumentation vendors should accelerate standard datasets for comparability across sites, improving forecasting models used in capacity planning.
Longer horizon, organoid and microphysiological adoption may reshape segment mix; teams that invest early in assay interoperability and cloud QC hooks are better positioned to capture upside without fragmenting their analytics stack.
