Handheld counter IEDs are used in any land operation involving asymmetrical threats, in which force protection will remain a top priority. The countermeasure systems usually consist of jammers and neutralizers. The systems can be deployed on fields and have minimal size, weight, and power requirements. Operating these systems is easy. They also offer optimal performance and also provide force protection against radio-controlled IEDs. The primary purpose of jammers is to defeat existing Radio Frequency (RF) or Remote Controlled IED (RCIED) threats and newly identified RF threats. The jammer accomplishes its primary mission by jamming each threat's transmitted RF signals. The secondary purpose of the jammer is to combine multiple internal RF signals and external RF inputs from other systems and transmit those RF signals while maintaining system interoperability.

These systems also prevent the activation of RCIED, or significantly reduce the distance for an explosive activation. Likewise, neutralization systems, such as joint IED neutralizer, transmit at high frequency and neutralize IEDs with radio frequency. These systems neutralize IEDs from a safe distance by detonating them. Owing to these benefits of countermeasure systems, their use has been increasing from the last few years. Therefore, the demand for handheld counter IEDs is expected to hamper to some extent in the review period.

Strategic Outlook and Future Directions

Near-term growth will likely concentrate in modular bioreactor lines and closed-system media workflows that shorten validation cycles while preserving batch traceability.

Partnerships between CDMOs and instrumentation vendors should accelerate standard datasets for comparability across sites, improving forecasting models used in capacity planning.
