Market Dynamics

India is one of the largest producers and consumers of coffee in the world. It is the 7th largest producer of coffee, accounting for over 4% of the global coffee production. India also boasts a rich heritage and tradition of coffee consumption with popular beverages like filter coffee and instant coffee being an integral part of its cultural fabric.

The India coffee market can be broadly categorized into three main categories – roasted and ground coffee, instant coffee, and coffee pods. Roasted and ground coffee is the most dominant category, accounting for more than 60% of the market share. This is followed by instant coffee which holds about 25% of the market share and coffee pods, which is the fastest-growing category, with a market share of 15%.

The roasted and ground coffee category mainly includes whole beans and ground coffee that is used in traditional methods of coffee brewing, such as through a filter or French press. This category is driven by factors such as increasing disposable incomes, growing coffee culture, and the popularity of home brewing among consumers. With an increasing demand for premium and specialty coffee, this category is expected to witness steady growth in the forecast period.

Instant coffee, on the other hand, has been a popular category in India for decades due to its convenience and easy preparation. However, changing consumption habits and the rise of coffee chains have led to a decline in the market share of this category. Nonetheless, the availability of a variety of flavors and brands in the market is expected to maintain its steady growth in the coming years.

The coffee pods category is the newest and fastest-growing segment in the Indian coffee market. These pods offer convenience and customization options to consumers, making it popular among the millennial population. The growing trend of at-home consumption of coffee, increased availability, and accessibility of coffee machines, and the rise of premium and specialty coffee culture are driving the demand for coffee pods in the country.

In conclusion, the Indian coffee market is diverse and dynamic, catering to the needs and preferences of a large and diverse consumer base. With an increasing focus on quality and variety, each category is expected to witness significant growth in the forecast period, contributing to the growth of the overall market.
