However, there are certain limitations to traditional IOLs. Patients with cataracts in both eyes may need to have surgery on both eyes at different times to allow each eye to heal properly. This can be inconvenient and may result in an imbalance in vision during the healing process. Additionally, monofocal IOLs may require the use of glasses for near or far vision, depending on the patient's choice during surgery. This can be a hassle for those who are accustomed to clear vision without glasses. As a result, there has been an increase in demand for advanced IOLs such as multifocal and toric lenses in Germany. These lenses provide a wider range of vision, reducing the need for glasses after surgery. Multifocal IOLs allow patients to see clearly at both near and far distances, while toric lenses correct astigmatism along with cataracts. These advanced lenses are not covered by public health insurance and are a more expensive option for patients. In conclusion, while traditional or monofocal IOLs remain popular in Germany, there is a growing demand for advanced lenses that offer a wider range of vision.
As the population continues to age and with increasing awareness about advanced IOL options, the demand for these lenses is expected to rise in the coming years.
