Market Dynamics
Indonesia is fast becoming a leader in the field of bio-based and synthetic polyamide market. This is due to the government's efforts to promote the usage of eco-friendly materials, such as polymer-based products, and to reduce dependence on imported commodities. To that end, the Indonesian government has implemented a number of regulations and incentives aimed at increasing the use of synthetic polyamides in the country. As of 2016, the Indonesian manufacturing sector had the highest production capacity of synthetic polyamides in the ASEAN region. The Indonesian market for bio-based and synthetic polyamides is highly competitive, with a number of well-established local and overseas players competing for market share. The major players include DSM (Netherlands), Sumitomo Chemical (Japan), BASF (Germany), and Teijin (Japan). Local players dominate the market, with DSM representing the largest market share in the synthetic polyamide market in Indonesia. DSM is followed by Sumitomo Chemical, BASF and Teijin, although the latter two have relatively smaller market shares. The Synthetic Polyamides market in Indonesia is driven primarily by local demand. Local industrial applications which utilize polyamides account for the majority of demand.
With the country’s growing industrial base, demand for synthetic polyamides is expected to remain strong over the coming years. Moreover, increasing demand from the automotive industry, due to the increase in production of cars and light motor vehicles, is expected to boost the demand for bio-based and synthetic polyamides in the coming years. Indonesia has also experienced strong growth in the bio-based polyamide market in recent years. This is due to the governments’ commitment to promote the use of biopolymers and the availability of cost-effective biopolymers from local suppliers. Furthermore, the government has established R&D collaborations and incentives to encourage local researchers to develop and utilize biopolymers. Overall, the Indonesian bio-based and synthetic polyamide market is expected to benefit from the country's improved economic outlook and increasing demand from local industries. With the right regulations and incentives in place, the market is expected to remain strong over the next few years.
