Market Dynamics
Despite the volatile economic landscape, the demand for automotive aluminum in Mexico is expected to remain strong throughout the 2018–2032 time period. This is in part because of the nation’s large automotive market, and its favorable automakers which are all invested in producing better, cleaner, and more efficient vehicles. The shift towards biofuel vehicles is also likely to have a major influence on aluminum demand in Mexico over the next several years. As automakers strive to meet emissions regulations and produce more fuel-efficient vehicles, aluminum materials are likely to become increasingly desirable. Aluminum offers better car control than steel, and is easier to work with than other metals. This means it is capable of being used to create lighter vehicles at reasonable costs and, in some cases, is even able to improve performance. The design trend of lighter and more sleek vehicles is expected to continue throughout the 2018–2032 period, driving further demand for automotive aluminum in Mexico. This increased demand is partially a result of the increases in safety standards, with lighter cars more able to withstand impacts without crumpling or suffering long term damage.
This shift towards lighter vehicles is likely to drive a corresponding rise in the demand for aluminum in Mexico. Finally, as the cars become lighter, they also become more efficient from an energy perspective—and so their costs and emissions decrease. With stricter environmental regulations being put in place worldwide, the demand for automotive aluminum in Mexico is expected to only increase further. The combination of these trends, therefore, suggests that automotive aluminum demand in Mexico is likely to remain strong throughout the 2018–2032 time period. The nation’s large and growing automotive industry, its push towards biofuel vehicles, its need for lighter vehicles that can better withstand impacts, and its drive towards greater energy efficiency and lower emissions are all expected to create strong demand for automotive aluminum in the years ahead.
