Market Dynamics
Pharmacovigilance is the process of monitoring the safety of drugs and other pharmacological agents after they have been placed into the market. As the global pharmaceutical industry continues to grow, more attention is being paid to pharmacovigilance in order to ensure that drugs are safe and effective throughout their lifecycle. In Russia, pharmacovigilance is regulated by the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare and Social Development (Roszdravnadzor). This organization is responsible for taking appropriate action when adverse reactions or events occur with regard to the use of therapeutic products. The majority of adverse events are tracked through the National Register of Adverse Drug Reactions (NAREP). NAREP stores the data sets collected from adverse event reporting (AER) from the healthcare sector and the pharmaceutical industry. AERs must be reported to Roszdravnadzor within 24 hours of the occurrence of the adverse event. Roszdravnadzor is also responsible for evaluating and approving pharmacovigilance plans submitted by pharmaceutical companies before they can place a drug on the Russian market. These plans must include safety surveillance activities, risk minimization measures, and communication of safety information to healthcare professionals.
It is also important for pharmaceutical companies to comply with regulatory requirements for submitting updated periodic safety reports to monitor potential safety issues and evaluate the risk-benefit profile of the drug. In terms of the pharmacovigilance market outlook in Russia, the increasing demand for drugs and the awareness of drug safety is a key driver of the overall market. This is expected to remain a key factor in the growth of the market in the years to come. It is important for the government to continuously improve the regulatory environment in order to ensure safe drugs are available in the market. This will also create a strong market for pharma companies to abide by the pharmacovigilance regulations which will consequently help to ensure the safety of the population.
