Forecasting Techniques
We at Wantstats follow an extensive process for arriving at market estimations, which involves the use of multiple forecasting techniques as mentioned below.
Research Methodology for Market size estimation
Understanding the market in terms of valuation is a crucial task. This becomes significantly important while investing in and choosing the correct business opportunities. In this regard, we at Wantstats undertake two market sizing approaches simultaneously, namely, the top-down and bottom-up approaches. In this step, we assess different data points, numeric attributes, information, and industry trends to arrive at the estimates and forecast values for the coming years. We use different mathematical models to estimate the market sizes of different economies and segments, each of which is further summed up to define the total market.
We at Wantstats employ a proprietary statistical tool for market estimations, which helps us to arrive at market size estimates and forecasts for different markets and industries.
Bottom-UP approach
In the bottom-up approach, the revenue of key companies and their shares in the market are assessed to deduce the market size. More than 25 key players operating in the Global Acrylic Fiber market are studied. The segmental revenue of each player is analyzed and the size for the Global Acrylic Fiber market is extracted from the segmental/product revenue with the help of secondary and primary research. The extracted size for the market is then validated with industry experts and partner consultants. This derived market size contributes to around 65%–70% of the total global market share in terms of revenue for the Global Acrylic Fiber market. Using the data triangulation method, the overall global market size is estimated.
Top-Down approach
The overall market size is then used in the top-down procedure to estimate the size of the other sub-markets with the help of percentage splits of the market segments from secondary and primary research. The demand-side analysis is conducted, in which the expenditure of major industry players in each region is studied.
The countries considered in the scope of the Global Acrylic Fiber market are the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, China, Japan, India, Australia & New Zealand, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and others. However, the number of countries varies according to the market. The figure below depicts the process of market estimation using independent tools employed by our analysts to arrive at the sizing of the market.
As a part of the market engineering, the both top-down and bottom-up approaches are utilized along with data triangulation models to derive and verify the market sizes and forecast over the coming years.
Data Triangulation
After arriving at the overall market sizes, the total market is divided into several segments and sub-segments. Again, the market breakdown and data triangulation procedures are implemented, wherever applicable, to complete the overall market engineering process and gather the exact statistics for all segments and sub-segments. The data is triangulated by studying various factors and trends from the demand and supply sides. Along with this, the market size is validated using the top-down and bottom-up approaches.
Validation
Validation is the most important stage of the report making process. Validation via an intricately designed feedback process helps us finalize the sizing estimates and forecast for the final collation. Extensive primary research is performed to verify the information. This includes telephonic and personal interviews, e-mails, feedback forms, questionnaires, and polling options/answers with a group of relevant industry participants. Validation helps to duly check the authenticity of the key industry trends, market dynamics, company market share, different business models, and conclusions.

Acrylic Fiber Market represents a significant market opportunity with multiple growth drivers across regions and segments.
Fiber is a natural or synthetic substance which is greater in length as compared to its breadth. The fibers are often used to produce different materials. Fibers that contain a minimum of eighty-five percent of acrylonitrile in their chemical structure are termed as acrylic fibers. They are almost as same as wool. Acrylic fiber is soft, warm, & lightweight and thus are easily washable and possess excellent dimensional stability. These fibers demonstrate high resistance to sunlight & chemical reactions, excellent color fastness and can be dyed with brilliant colors.

Taekwang Industrial is the listed flagship of the Taekwang Group and one of Korea's oldest synthetic-fibre and petrochemical producers. It was the first Korean company to commercialise spandex, in 1979, and it remains a leading domestic acrylonitrile (AN) supplier from its Ulsan complex. Its legacy portfolio of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), acrylonitrile, sodium cyanide, acrylic fibre, nylon filament and spandex has been hit by Chinese overcapacity. The result is four consecutive annual operating losses (FY2022–FY2025) and revenue shrinking from about KRW 2.6 trillion to KRW 1.83 trillion. Its financial character is the opposite of distressed: it holds about KRW 1.5 trillion in net cash and liquid securities and almost no debt, and it carries a large equity-method stake of about 28% direct (about 45% group-wide) in Lotte Home Shopping. Since mid-2025 management has pursued a KRW 1.5 trillion "survival" restructuring into K-beauty, healthcare, hotels and real estate, under intense activist scrutiny over governance and minimal shareholder returns. --- ### Company's own description Taekwang describes itself as a vertically integrated producer spanning petrochemical raw materials through finished fibre and yarn. Third-party profiles drawn from its filings describe the business as petrochemicals, synthetic fibres, textiles and advanced materials, sold in Korea and internationally (S&P/Simply Wall St description). - **Petrochemical products:** purified terephthalic acid (PTA), propylene, acrylonitrile (AN), sodium cyanide (NaCN), acetonitrile, ammonium sulphate and hydrogen peroxide. - **Synthetic fibres:** acrylic fibre, nylon filament, spandex, spun yarns and low-melting fibre (the LMF line has since been exited). - **Other materials:** polyester fabrics and aramid fibre. - **Non-manufacturing activities:** property rental and a broadcasting/communications activity. In its 29 September 2025 shareholder letter, then-CEO Yoo Tae-ho framed the company as standing at a crossroads between "elimination or leap" (paraphrased). The letter set two strategic axes: 1. Strengthen the existing business through "selection and concentration": prune loss-making lines and expand proven high-margin specialties such as modacrylic, aramid and NaCN. 2. Build a new portfolio in K-beauty, real-estate development, hotels and energy. ### Reported segments On a consolidated basis, Taekwang reports two operating segments: Source: Butler.works summary of the 2Q26 report. ### Business and revenue model Taekwang's revenue is almost entirely product revenue from commodity and semi-specialty chemicals and fibres, plus minor rental and broadcasting/telecom income. There are no subscription or licensing streams of note. A large share of economic earnings comes from below the operating line: - equity-method income from associates, chiefly Lotte Home Shopping; - returns on a securities portfolio. This explains why net income was positive in FY2022, FY2024 and FY2025 despite operating losses. For example, S&P data show equity-investment gains of KRW 229.3 bn in FY2024 and KRW 90.2 bn in FY2025. ### Value-chain position Taekwang sits in the midstream of the petrochemical-to-textile chain: ### Customer types and end-markets ### Independent characterisation Taekwang is best understood as three overlapping businesses: 1. **A shrinking commodity manufacturer.** Petrochemicals and fibres are structurally challenged by Chinese capacity additions. 2. **A cash-rich holding vehicle.** Book equity is about KRW 4.0 trillion, against a market value of about KRW 1.0 trillion. The balance sheet holds liquid assets, real estate (management cites over KRW 1 trillion of property value) and strategic stakes (Lotte Home Shopping, group financial affiliates). 3. **An emerging consumer and real-estate platform** built through 2025–2026 M&A. The equity story is dominated by governance: the controlling family's influence, persistent sub-1% dividend payout, a 24.41% treasury-share block, and the question of whether acquisitions serve minority shareholders or family succession.
