Market Overview
The Global Bleach Precursor Market was valued at USD 1,329.34 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 1,700.27 million by 2032, expanding at a CAGR of 3.46% during 2026–2032. Over the historic period the market grew from USD 1,124.25 million in 2022, and it is expected to add USD 370.93 million in absolute value between 2025 and 2032. Bleach precursors, also called bleach activators, are compounds that react with hydrogen peroxide released from persalts such as sodium percarbonate to generate peroxy acids in the wash liquor. This chemistry allows oxygen-based bleaching to work at 20–40 °C rather than at the near-boiling temperatures required by persalts alone, which makes bleach precursors a core enabler of energy-saving, low-temperature washing in laundry and automatic dishwashing products.
Demand is anchored in household laundry powders, tablets and oxygen-based stain removers, and in automatic dishwashing detergents, with additional consumption in industrial and institutional cleaning, textile pre-treatment, pulp bleaching and peracetic-acid-based disinfection. Growth through 2032 is moderate and steady: it is supported by low-temperature washing policies, rising washing-machine and dishwasher ownership in emerging economies, and stronger hygiene expectations, but it is tempered by the long-running shift from powders to liquid and gel formats in mature markets, where solid bleach systems are harder to formulate.
Key Findings
Product type: TAED is the largest segment with a 2025 share of 85.00% (USD 1,129.94 million), while Others is the fastest-growing segment with a CAGR of 4.19% over 2026–2032.
Application: Laundry Detergents is the largest application with a 2025 share of 75.00% (USD 997.01 million), while Dishwashing & Others is the fastest-growing application with a CAGR of 3.86%.
Region: Europe is the leading region with a 2025 share of 50.00% (USD 664.67 million). Middle East & Africa is the fastest-growing region with a CAGR of 4.53%, followed by Asia Pacific at 4.42%.
Country: China is the largest country market at USD 179.46 million in 2025, ahead of Germany (USD 146.23 million) and the U.S. (USD 124.43 million). India is the fastest-growing country with a CAGR of 6.01%.
Absolute opportunity: Europe (USD 147.68 million) and Asia Pacific (USD 146.08 million) together account for most of the incremental value created between 2025 and 2032.
Segmentation Summary
By product type, the market is divided into TAED and Others. TAED (tetraacetylethylenediamine) is the dominant bleach activator in Europe and much of Asia, Latin America and the Middle East & Africa because it is effective, low in toxicity and readily biodegradable. It is projected to grow from USD 1,129.94 million in 2025 to USD 1,431.99 million in 2032. The Others segment, which covers phenol-ester activators such as NOBS, other acyl-donor activators and transition-metal bleach catalysts, is projected to grow from USD 199.40 million to USD 268.29 million, gaining share as catalysts and high-efficiency activators are adopted in automatic dishwashing and low-temperature laundry products.
By application, Laundry Detergents accounted for USD 997.01 million in 2025 and is forecast to reach USD 1,263.17 million in 2032, while Dishwashing & Others is forecast to rise from USD 332.34 million to USD 437.11 million. Automatic dishwashing tablets, which rely on percarbonate-activator systems for tea and coffee stain removal and hygiene, are the main reason this application outpaces laundry.
Competitive Landscape Summary
Production of bleach precursors is concentrated in a small number of integrated chemical producers, supported by a wider network of regional suppliers and distributors. Catexel, the Care Chemicals platform of the International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG), is the leading Western producer, supplying Peractive TAED grades and transition-metal bleach catalysts from operations in Germany, the United States and the Netherlands. Zhejiang Jinke Household Chemical New Materials is the leading Asian producer, combining TAED with sodium percarbonate production in China. The exit of The Lubrizol Corporation from its Warwick Chemicals bleach activator business in 2022 removed a major European source of TAED and further consolidated supply. Chinese suppliers such as Shanghai Deborn, Hongye Holding Group, Fengchen Group and STPP Group, together with regional distributors such as Acuro Organics in India, compete mainly on price and service in export markets.
Challenges and Opportunities
The main challenge is the structural decline of powder detergents in North America and Western Europe as consumers move to liquids, gels and unit-dose capsules that cannot easily carry a percarbonate-activator system. Lubrizol explicitly cited falling TAED demand, as gel-based products grew, as the reason for closing its Mostyn plant. Raw material volatility in ethylenediamine and acetic anhydride, price competition from Asian exporters and tighter biodegradability and labelling rules under the new EU detergents framework add to the pressure on margins.
The main opportunities lie in automatic dishwashing, in emerging-market laundry where powders remain the dominant format, in oxygen-based laundry boosters and stain removers, and in hygiene applications where in-situ peracetic acid generated from TAED and sodium percarbonate is an approved biocidal active substance in the European Union. Bleach catalysts that perform below 30 °C and new granule designs for compatibility with compact formats offer additional routes to value growth.
Future Outlook
Between 2026 and 2032 the market is expected to grow at 3.46% per year, with growth increasingly driven by Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East & Africa while Europe remains the largest market by value. Producers that combine reliable TAED supply with catalyst technology, application know-how and regional distribution are best placed to capture value as detergent makers reformulate for lower wash temperatures, shorter cycles and stricter sustainability requirements.
The Bleach Precursor Market market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 4.2% from 2022 to 2032.

A bleach precursor, or bleach activator, is an acyl-donor compound that reacts with hydrogen peroxide, a process known as perhydrolysis, to form a peroxy carboxylic acid in situ. The peroxy acid is a stronger and faster-acting oxidant than hydrogen peroxide at low temperatures and in mildly alkaline wash conditions. In typical formulations the hydrogen peroxide is supplied by a persalt such as sodium percarbonate or sodium perborate.
Tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED) is the most widely used bleach precursor. It is produced from ethylenediamine and acetic anhydride, and on perhydrolysis it releases peracetic acid, typically yielding two equivalents, and leaves diacetylethylenediamine (DAED) as a by-product. TAED is normally supplied as granules bound with carboxymethylcellulose or similar binders, sometimes coloured blue or green, to provide storage stability and rapid dissolution in the wash. Other bleach precursors include phenol-ester activators such as sodium nonanoyloxybenzenesulfonate (NOBS), sodium lauroyloxybenzenesulfonate and decanoyloxybenzoic acid, acylated glycolurils and other N-acyl compounds, nitrile quats, and transition-metal bleach catalysts based on manganese or iron complexes that activate peroxide at very low temperatures.
Included in the scope: TAED in all physical forms and grades and the Others category of bleach precursors and bleach-activating catalysts, sold for laundry detergents and for dishwashing and other applications, including industrial and institutional cleaning, textile bleaching, pulp bleaching and peracetic-acid-generating disinfectant systems.
Excluded from the scope: persalts and peroxygen sources sold on their own (sodium percarbonate, sodium perborate and hydrogen peroxide), pre-formed peroxy acids that do not require activation, chlorine-based bleaches such as sodium hypochlorite, optical brighteners, enzymes and finished detergent products. Market values reflect the value of bleach precursors at the manufacturer level, not the value of the finished consumer products in which they are used.

The bleach precursor market is moderately consolidated at the production level and fragmented at the distribution level. A small number of integrated producers account for the bulk of TAED and specialty activator supply, while a wider group of Chinese suppliers, regional distributors and chemical traders serve smaller detergent makers and export markets. Competition centres on price, security of supply, product quality and granule performance, regulatory compliance and technical support for formulators.
The structure of supply has tightened since 2022. The Lubrizol Corporation, which had owned Warwick Chemicals since 2014, proposed exiting the business and closing its bleach activator plant at Mostyn in Wales in August 2022, citing falling demand for TAED in powder detergents, and in October 2023 the idled site was sold to International Process Plants for redevelopment and redeployment of its equipment. In Europe and North America the main remaining producer is Catexel, the Care Chemicals platform formed by the International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG) in 2023, which brings together the Peractive TAED business, bleach catalysts and other detergent ingredients. In Asia, Chinese producers led by Zhejiang Jinke Household Chemical New Materials combine activator production with sodium percarbonate and other peroxygen chemicals. Captive activator production by large detergent manufacturers, particularly for phenol-ester activators, adds a further layer to the market.
Key Player Positioning
Market Leaders
Catexel (ICIG): Catexel was formed in 2023 as the Care Chemicals platform of ICIG and describes itself as a world market leader and innovator in bleach activators and catalysis. Its large-scale products include TAED, sold under the Peractive brand (Peractive AC White, AC Blue, AC Green and CB grades), sodium paraffin sulfonate, hydrotropes and optical brighteners, and it holds bleach and oxidation catalyst technology that originated in the homecare and process catalyst business acquired from Catexel Group in 2018. Catexel operates in Germany, the United States, where it supplies Peractive grades through its Nease business, and the Netherlands, and had about 220 employees before acquiring BASF's optical brightener business, including production at Monthey, Switzerland, at the end of February 2026. Catexel does not publish standalone revenue; its parent ICIG reports annual sales of over EUR 2.8 billion across six platforms. Its strategy combines low-temperature chemistry, application know-how and portfolio expansion in detergent ingredients.
Zhejiang Jinke Household Chemical New Materials Co., Ltd.: Based in the Shangyu High-Tech Zone in Zhejiang, Jinke is a leading Chinese producer of oxygen-based chemicals. Its portfolio includes sodium percarbonate, TAED, hydrogen peroxide, 2-ethylanthraquinone and potassium monopersulfate, produced at sites in Shaoxing, Jilin and Tianjin through four subsidiaries and affiliates. In 2023 it set up Tianjin Jinke Household Chemical New Materials Co., Ltd. to build a CNY 850 million, 100,000 tonne-per-year sodium percarbonate project in two phases in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area. Jinke is privately held and does not publish revenue. Its strategy is vertical integration across the peroxygen and activator chain, which allows it to offer detergent makers a complete oxygen bleach system.

Revenue is not publicly reported.
Idchem Co., Ltd.: A South Korean chemicals supplier identified across industry coverage as a TAED supplier to the Korean detergent and cleaning industry. Revenue is not publicly reported.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers – Medium
Ethylenediamine and acetic anhydride are produced by a limited number of large chemical companies, giving them some pricing power.
Both inputs are traded internationally and have uses well beyond bleach precursors, so producers can source from several regions.
Backward-integrated producers in China reduce dependence on third-party suppliers.
Bargaining Power of Buyers – High
Detergent demand is concentrated among a few multinationals, such as Henkel, Procter & Gamble, Unilever and Reckitt, which buy large volumes under competitive tenders.
Buyers can reformulate towards alternative bleach systems or away from bleach in liquid formats.
Qualification of a new supplier takes time, which gives incumbent suppliers some protection.
Threat of New Entrants – Low
The market is mature and moderately growing, offering limited room for new capacity.
Regulatory registration costs, long customer qualification cycles and the need for granulation know-how create entry barriers.
Recent exits, such as Lubrizol's withdrawal from TAED, show that scale and integration are needed to compete profitably.
Threat of Substitutes – Medium
Enzymes, pre-formed peroxy acids and chlorine bleach can replace bleach precursors in some applications.
Liquid and unit-dose detergents that omit oxygen bleach reduce the use of activators per wash.
In powders, tablets and dishwashing products, no alternative matches the cost-performance of percarbonate-activator systems.
Intensity of Competitive Rivalry – High
A few large producers compete for contracts with a small group of global buyers, so pricing is intense.
Asian exporters compete aggressively on price in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
Differentiation is achieved through supply security, catalyst technology and technical service.
Bargaining power of suppliers: Medium; Concentrated but internationally traded petrochemical inputs.
Bargaining power of buyers: High; Concentrated multinational detergent customers and reformulation options.
Threat of new entrants: Low; Mature market, regulatory registration and qualification barriers.
Threat of substitutes: Medium; Enzymes, pre-formed peracids, chlorine bleach and liquid formats.
Intensity of competitive rivalry: High; Few producers, price-driven contracts and Asian export competition.

Analytical insights on Bleach Precursor Market covering market dynamics, competitive landscape, and strategic outlook.
The Bleach Precursor Market market is projected to reach $1.70B by 2032, growing at 4.2% CAGR. The TAED segment holds the largest share.
The bleach precursor market is shaped by the interaction between energy and sustainability policy, detergent format trends, hygiene expectations and the economics of a mature but concentrated chemical supply base. Demand-side forces such as low-temperature washing and the growth of automatic dishwashing support steady expansion, while the shift away from powder detergents in mature markets and raw material volatility act as restraints. This chapter assesses these forces and their expected influence over the forecast period.
Policy-Led Shift to Low-Temperature Washing
The most important structural driver is the push to reduce the energy used in laundry. Heating water accounts for most of the energy consumed in a typical wash cycle, so lowering wash temperatures from 60 °C to 40 °C or 30 °C delivers large savings. Persalts on their own bleach poorly below about 60 °C; a bleach precursor such as TAED converts the peroxide into peracetic acid that remains effective at 40 °C and below. Regulation reinforces this shift. In the European Union, Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/2023 on the ecodesign of household washing machines requires an "eco 40-60" programme that cleans normally soiled cotton at lower energy use, and energy labelling rules make low-temperature performance visible to consumers. Detergent makers have responded with cold-wash claims and compact formulations that must deliver stain removal and whiteness at lower temperatures. Each of these developments increases the functional importance of an efficient bleach system in powders, tablets and laundry boosters, and it favours both TAED and catalyst-based systems that work at 20–30 °C.
Growth of Automatic Dishwashing
Automatic dishwashing is the fastest-growing use of bleach precursors. Dishwasher tablets and powders typically combine sodium percarbonate with TAED, and increasingly with manganese-based bleach catalysts, to remove tea, coffee and other oxidisable stains and to deliver a hygienic finish. Dishwasher ownership is still low in many emerging markets and is rising with urbanisation, smaller households and growing female labour participation, while in mature markets the move to premium all-in-one tablets raises the bleach system content per wash. Regulatory restrictions on phosphates in consumer automatic dishwashing detergents, such as those under Regulation (EU) No 259/2012 and in many US states, have pushed formulators towards more efficient oxygen bleaching to compensate for lost builder performance. As a result, the Dishwashing & Others application is projected to grow faster than laundry across every region covered in this report.
Hygiene and Disinfection Demand
The combination of TAED and sodium percarbonate generates peracetic acid, which is bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal. In the European Union, Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1276 approved peracetic acid generated from TAED and sodium percarbonate as an active substance for biocidal product-types 2, 3 and 4 (disinfectants for private and public health areas, veterinary hygiene, and food and feed areas), with the approval running until 31 December 2028 and a minimum TAED purity of 99.0%. This creates a defined regulatory pathway for hygiene laundry additives, hospital and care-home laundry, kitchen and food-contact disinfection and denture and oral-care products. Heightened awareness of infection control since 2020 has sustained interest in such products, and institutional laundry operators value systems that disinfect at moderate temperatures without chlorine damage to textiles.
Rising Detergent Consumption in Emerging Economies
In India, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, powdered laundry detergents remain the dominant format because they are affordable, suit hand washing and semi-automatic machines, and are widely distributed through traditional retail. Rising incomes are moving consumers from basic soaps and bars to branded powders and then to premium powders with oxygen bleach, and growing washing-machine ownership raises detergent consumption per household. These trends underpin the higher growth projected for Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East & Africa than for Europe and North America. Expanding domestic detergent manufacturing in China, India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and other markets is also building local demand for activators and peroxygen ingredients.
Low-Temperature Bleach Catalysts
Transition-metal bleach catalysts, such as manganese complexes, activate peroxide at temperatures below 30 °C and at very low dosages. They are already established in automatic dishwashing and offer a route to effective bleaching in cold-wash laundry products. Producers with catalyst intellectual property, such as Catexel, whose catalyst technology stems from the 2018 acquisition of Catexel Group's homecare and process catalyst business by ICIG and WeylChem from Unilever Ventures, can capture higher value per kilogram and position bleach systems as an enabler of energy savings.
Oxygen-Based Boosters and Chlorine Replacement
Consumers are replacing chlorine bleach with colour-safe oxygen boosters, stain-removal powders and laundry sanitisers for both performance and safety reasons. These products have high bleach precursor content and command premium prices. In markets with a strong chlorine bleach tradition, including Latin America, southern Europe and parts of Asia, the conversion to oxygen systems represents a sizeable incremental opportunity.
Hygiene, Institutional and Technical Applications
Peracetic acid generated in situ from TAED and percarbonate can be used in institutional laundry disinfection, food-area hygiene, textile pre-treatment and pulp bleaching. The approved EU biocidal status of this system and its favourable environmental profile, since TAED and DAED are biodegradable and of low aquatic toxicity, support its use as an alternative to chlorine-based or more hazardous chemistries. Growth in healthcare, hospitality and food processing, particularly in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, broadens the customer base beyond household detergents.
Migration from Powders to Liquid and Unit-Dose Formats
Liquid detergents, gels and unit-dose capsules have taken a large share of laundry in North America and Western Europe. Water-containing formulations cannot easily accommodate solid persalt and activator systems, because the peroxide decomposes and the activator hydrolyses in storage. As consumers move to these formats, the volume of bleach precursor per wash falls. The effect is visible in the supply base: when Lubrizol announced the proposed closure of its Warwick Chemicals plant in Mostyn, Wales, in 2022, it attributed the plant's problems to falling demand for TAED in powdered laundry detergents as gel-based products grew.
Raw Material and Energy Cost Volatility
TAED is produced from ethylenediamine and acetic anhydride, both derived from petrochemical value chains that are exposed to swings in natural gas, methanol and ethylene prices. Energy-intensive European production was particularly affected by the energy price spike of 2022. Because large detergent manufacturers negotiate annual or multi-year contracts and resist price increases, producers often absorb part of the cost volatility, which compresses margins and discourages capacity investment.
Competition from Alternative Bleaching and Stain-Removal Technologies
Enzyme systems have become more effective at removing many stains at low temperatures, reducing the need for bleach in some formulations. Sodium hypochlorite remains a low-cost bleach in the Americas and southern Europe, and pre-formed peroxy acids can be used in liquid products where activators cannot. These alternatives limit the addressable market for bleach precursors, especially in mainstream liquid laundry detergents.
Supply Concentration and Regional Self-Sufficiency
The closure of the Mostyn plant in 2022 and the subsequent sale of the idled site to International Process Plants in 2023 left Europe more reliant on a smaller number of producers and on imports from China. Detergent makers are responding with dual-sourcing strategies and closer supplier partnerships, while Chinese producers are expanding peroxygen and activator capacity, as illustrated by Zhejiang Jinke's investment in a new 100,000 tonne-per-year sodium percarbonate project in Tianjin.
Sustainability, Transparency and Digital Labelling
Regulation (EU) 2026/405 on detergents and surfactants, adopted in February 2026, introduces revised biodegradability criteria, mandatory labelling for refill sales and a digital product passport that lists intentionally added substances. Ingredient transparency, eco-label criteria and retailer sustainability programmes increase scrutiny of every detergent ingredient. TAED's ready biodegradability is an advantage, but suppliers must provide fuller documentation and life-cycle data.
Format Innovation and Activator Compatibility
Detergent makers are developing compact powders, tablets, multi-compartment capsules and concentrated sheets. Bleach precursors must be granulated, coated or segregated to remain stable in these formats, which drives demand for specialised granule grades and creates a challenge for producers whose offering is limited to standard grades.
Price Pressure and Margin Management
With a few large multinational customers, competitive Asian supply and volatile input costs, producers face continuous price pressure. Differentiation through application support, supply security, regulatory compliance and catalyst technology is becoming the main lever for protecting margins.
The bleach precursor value chain extends from basic petrochemical intermediates to the detergent and cleaning products used by households and institutions. Value is added at each stage through chemical conversion, particle engineering and application know-how.
Europe

DuPont de Nemours today is a focused, roughly USD 7 bn-revenue multi-industry company. It is no longer the diversified chemical conglomerate of its heritage. After a decade of portfolio surgery, the company consists of two segments: **Healthcare & Water Technologies (about 47% of FY2025 sales):** Tyvek® medical packaging and protective garments, specialty medical device components (Spectrum, Donatelle), and the FilmTec™ / Amberlite™ water purification franchise. **Diversified Industrials (about 53%):** Building envelope products (Tyvek® house wrap, Styrofoam™, Corian®) and engineered industrial technologies (Molykote®, Vespel®, Betaseal™/Betaforce™ adhesives, Cyrel® printing plates). The company earns a premium-specialty margin profile: operating EBITDA margin was 23.8% in FY2025, with guidance of about 24.5% for FY2026. Management targets 3–4% organic growth, 150–200 bps of margin expansion and 8–10% adjusted EPS CAGR through 2028, supported by a lightly levered BBB+/Baa1 balance sheet. The principal overhang is legacy PFAS liability, shared with Chemours, Corteva and Qnity under contractual arrangements. The principal opportunity is a cleaner, higher-growth healthcare/water mix and capital redeployment. --- **Company's own description (FY2025 10-K, Item 1).** DuPont describes itself as a leading provider of advanced solutions that improve everyday life across healthcare, water, construction and industrial markets. It emphasizes helping customers advance their technology pipelines, from clean water to medical packaging that enhances safety and performance. It names its competitive strengths as: - proprietary product and process technologies; - robust application-development pipelines; - well-known brands; - customer intimacy; - global manufacturing and local service capability. **Independent characterization.** DuPont is now best understood as a specialty engineered-materials and components company with four businesses of roughly comparable scale: **Business model and revenue model.** - Revenue is overwhelmingly product sales: materials, components, membranes, resins, garments and plates. Some engineered systems and modules are sold in Water. - There is no material subscription or licensing revenue. Trade secrets may be licensed occasionally (10-K, Intellectual Property). - The contract manufacturing and design services of Spectrum and Donatelle (medical devices) add a design-in / build-to-print services element, but are recognized as product revenue. - Seasonality: North American Building Technologies demand peaks in Q2–Q3. **Value-chain position.** DuPont sits mid-stream as a Tier-1/Tier-2 supplier. It converts purchased raw materials (polyolefins, specialty monomers, resins, silicones, polymers) into engineered materials, membranes and components. These are specified into customers' finished products: medical devices, sterile packaging, water plants, building envelopes, aircraft, vehicles and print packaging. **Customer types.** - Medical device OEMs and sterile packaging converters - Biopharma manufacturers - Industrial end users and EPC/OEM water-system integrators - Municipalities and desalination operators (via integrators) - Builders, contractors and distributors (e.g., Corian® distribution through Hallmark and Parksite) - Automotive and EV OEMs and Tier-1s - Aerospace OEMs - Printing and packaging converters Most products are sold through DuPont's own sales organization, with distributors used for some lines (10-K, Distribution). **End markets.** Healthcare (medical devices, packaging, biopharma, PPE), water (industrial, municipal/desalination, life sciences, microelectronics UPW), construction (residential, non-residential, repair/remodel) and industrial (aerospace, automotive/EV, printing and packaging, general industrial).
Nippon Soda is a mid-cap, diversified Japanese chemical group founded in 1920 as a chlor-alkali producer and progressively re-shaped into a portfolio anchored by two high-value franchises: research-based crop protection (Agri Business, 35% of FY3/26 sales) and specialty "Chemical Materials" (25%), complemented by lower-margin but stable trading/logistics, plant engineering and environmental-recycling businesses. Its crown jewels are niche, high-barrier products in which it holds globally relevant positions — the pharmaceutical excipient NISSO HPC (hydroxypropyl cellulose), liquid polybutadiene NISSO-PB for AI-server copper-clad laminates, KrF photoresist polymer VP-POLYMER, and proprietary agrochemicals such as Mospilan (acetamiprid) and Topsin-M. With FY3/26 net sales of JPY 152.1 billion, record net profit of JPY 18.3 billion, an equity ratio of ~66.6%, and a 50%+ total shareholder return policy, the company is a conservatively financed, R&D-led specialty player now pivoting toward healthcare (including animal health) and advanced ICT materials under its Stage III plan to FY3/30. --- ### Company's own description According to its Stage III medium-term plan (May 2026), Nippon Soda describes its mission as creating new value through the power of chemistry, and frames the group as supporting everyday life through chemical products and services across four "material" fields: Agriculture (securing food and sustainable agriculture), Healthcare (healthy life for all people), Environment (toward a resource-recycling society) and ICT (chemical functions for IT devices). The Yuho describes the parent's business as manufacturing, processing and marketing of industrial chemicals, synthetic resins and plastics, dyes, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, veterinary pharmaceuticals and other chemical products. ### Business model and revenue model Nippon Soda's revenue is overwhelmingly product-based (manufactured chemical sales), with secondary service revenues from logistics (warehousing, transport, customs brokerage), engineering/EPC contracts and waste treatment. There is no material subscription revenue. Licensing/active-ingredient supply is embedded in Agri Business: the company supplies proprietary active ingredients (AIs) to global majors and sells formulated products through its own overseas network and partners. The revenue mix by nature (approximation from FY3/26 segment data; company does not disclose a product/service split): *Note: the above split is an analytical characterization; the company does not report revenue by nature.* ### Value-chain position **Agri Business:** fully integrated R&D-type agrochemical originator — chemical synthesis, biological/safety research, formulation research, field evaluation, AI manufacturing (including via Nisso Namhae Agro in Korea) and formulation, registration and global marketing (Stage III plan). The company emphasizes that R&D-type agrochemical originators are largely limited to five overseas majors plus Japanese firms, and that Japanese originators punch above their weight in new AI discovery. **Chemical Materials:** upstream chlor-alkali (caustic soda, chlorine, hydrochloric acid) feeding downstream fine/specialty chemistry (living anionic polymerization for NISSO-PB and VP-POLYMER; cellulose derivatization for HPC; penem API synthesis). **Trading & Logistics:** captive and third-party distribution (Nisso Shoji) and specialized hazardous/pharma logistics (Sanwa Soko, Sanso Unyu). **Engineering:** fine-chemical-type EPC (Nisso Engineering) and civil works (Nisso Kensetsu). **Eco Solutions:** waste treatment, zinc recovery from electric-arc-furnace dust, sulfuric acid recycling (Nisso Metallochemical). ### Customer types and end-markets Customers include global agrochemical majors and distributors, farmers' cooperatives (via channels), generic and innovator pharmaceutical companies and supplement makers (HPC, SSF, faropenem API), copper-clad-laminate (CCL) and semiconductor-materials producers (NISSO-PB, 1,2-SBS, VP-POLYMER), thermal-paper manufacturers (color developers), battery-materials producers, industrial users of commodity chemicals, steelmakers (EAF dust treatment), and public/private construction clients (Engineering). End-markets: crop protection (fruit & vegetables first, expanding to grains), pharmaceuticals/nutraceuticals, semiconductors/electronics (AI servers, HBM, automotive chips), infrastructure, and environmental services. ### Independent characterization Nippon Soda is best understood as two engines and three stabilizers. The engines — Agri Business and specialty Chemical Materials — generated roughly 75% of FY3/26 segment operating profit (JPY 11.2 billion of JPY 14.97 billion before adjustments) on 60% of sales. Agri is cyclical and FX-sensitive (65.7% overseas sales ratio in FY3/26), while Chemical Materials has been structurally re-rated from a ~5–6% margin business to ~15–17% after exiting commodity lines (metallic sodium via Alkaline S.A.S., NISSO HI-CHLON, phenol-based color developers, sodium cyanide). The stabilizers (Trading & Logistics, Engineering, Eco Solutions) are low-growth and modest-margin but add scale and cash. A further, often-overlooked profit pillar is equity-method income (JPY 6.06 billion in FY3/26, chiefly Iharabras in Brazil), which made ordinary profit (JPY 22.99 billion) much larger than operating profit and is highly FX-sensitive (BRL/USD).
