National Oilwell Valco (NOV) was established in 1841 has headquarters in Houston, Texas, United States. A Delaware corporation incorporated in 1995, it has operational presence over 1200 locations across six continents, and had 64,000 employees globally until 2014.
The company operates in four broad business segments, namely Rig Systems, Rig Aftermarket, Completion and Production Solutions, and Wellbore Technologies. The Wellbore Technologies offers operations such as Drilling Intervention, Dynamic Drilling Solutions, Grant Pridecotm, Integrated Approach, Intelliserv, Turoscopetm and Wellsite Services. This segment reported a revenue of USD 2.2 billion in the FY 2016, accounting for 30% of the company’s revenue. They compete with manufactures such as DP Master Manufacturing Pvt Ltd. (China), Drill Pipe International Llc. (USA), Hilong Group. (China).

The company believes in purposeful innovation through business innovation, product creation and service delivery The Strix stickup height detection (SHD) technology, built by National Oilwell Varco (U.S.), provides an accurate height set point for pipe-handling machines during drill pipe and casing trip-in sequences with the use of imaging sensors and computer vision techniques, which enables improved efficiency and consistency. NOV recently announced their proposed joint venture and will establish a training centre to develop Saudi technicians to maintain and operate the sophisticated drilling technology produced by the venture.
