CTCBIO Inc. Overview
CTCBIO is a Korean small-cap drug developer and manufacturer with two product groups. The first is animal health: feed enzymes, bacteriophage feed additives, veterinary drugs and, through subsidiary CTCVAC, animal vaccines. The second is human pharmaceuticals: incrementally modified drugs, orally dissolving films, OTC products, probiotics manufactured as OEM/ODM, and distribution of excipients and APIs. Its most distinctive assets are CTCZYME, a fermentation-derived β-mannanase that the company describes as the first in Asia and second in the world, and which received US FDA approval in 2016, and Wonto Tab, approved in Korea in May 2024 as the first clomipramine/sildenafil fixed-dose combination for premature ejaculation. From 2021 to early 2025 the company went through repeated control contests and losses. It came under the control of SD Group's Bionote in October 2025. After liquidating loss-making subsidiaries, it has reported its best margins in years: H1 2026 parent-only operating margin was 14.6%. The investment case now depends on whether those margins hold, export growth, and synergies with Bionote's animal-diagnostics business.
What the company does. CTCBIO develops, manufactures and sells products in three areas it describes as pharmaceuticals, functional food and veterinary medicines. Its corporate philosophy is "CTC = Change, Try, Challenge". Third-party profiles describe its offer as human and animal pharmaceuticals, feed additives and ingredients, and functional food products. They also list pharmaceutical excipients (coating bases, plasticisers, pore formers, diluents, binders, disintegrants, lubricants, solubilisers), topicals, APIs, animal drugs, physiological activators, functional enhancers and disinfectants. (Sources: PharmaCompass company page; Investing.com profile.)
Reporting structure. Korean press analysis of DART filings splits consolidated revenue into an animal pharmaceuticals group (동물약품군) and a human pharmaceuticals group (인체약품군). Butler's summary of the Q2 2026 report records a single reportable business, "animal and human pharmaceuticals", at 100% of sales. Google Finance shows a split of about 59% animal and 41% human. That split conflicts with the 9M 2025 DART-based figures reported by DailyPharm (animal ₩32.2bn, human ₩59.9bn), so it is treated as unreliable here.
Business model and revenue model.
Product sales: These make up almost all revenue: feed additives and veterinary drugs sold to feed mills, integrators, farms and distributors; finished human drugs sold to hospitals, pharmacies and partner pharma companies.
Contract manufacturing / OEM: Examples: Dongkoo Bio's Gusejung is produced at CTCBIO's Ansan plant under OEM; probiotics and health functional foods are made on an OEM/ODM basis; the company ran a COVID-19 diagnostic-kit CMO in 2020–22.
Licensing and technology fees: Historically episodic, mostly from film-type ED drug technology transfers. NH Investment expected ₩3–5bn of such fees in H2 2013. No recent licence income has been reported.
Distribution of third-party materials: CTCBIO promotes BASF's Kollidon excipient range to Korean formulators (Newspim, 21 Sep 2026). In probiotics it is IFF (Danisco)'s official partner (Dealsite, Aug 2025).
Subscription revenue: none.
Value-chain position. The company is vertically integrated from formulation R&D (structure modification, salt changes, combination and film formulation, fermentation-derived enzymes, phage isolation, probiotic coating) through GMP manufacturing in Ansan, Hwaseong and Hongcheon to B2B commercialisation. In animal health it sells mainly to feed manufacturers and global feed-additive marketers such as Huvepharma. In human pharma it sells directly to large hospitals and through partners such as Dongkoo Bio.
Customer types and end-markets. Livestock feed manufacturers (poultry and swine); global animal-health distributors; Korean livestock farms and veterinary distributors; the companion-animal health market (pet probiotics with Cosmax Pet); Korean hospitals (400+ beds for Wonto) and urology clinics through Dongkoo Bio; pharmacies (OTC Seenexin); pharma companies buying excipients and APIs; health functional food brands buying OEM/ODM probiotics.
Independent characterisation. CTCBIO is a sub-scale, two-legged specialty manufacturer. It has a few proprietary franchises (CTCZYME, phage additives, film formulations, Wonto) on top of a lower-margin trading and generics base. For most of 2016–2024 its economics were eroded by heavy SG&A (₩43.3bn in 2022 and ₩47.6bn in 2023), loss-making subsidiaries, and governance instability; DailyPharm counted operating losses in eight of the ten years to 2025. Since 2025 the business has been reshaped around fewer, higher-margin products, with the parent company now earning most of the group profit. Under Bionote it is being positioned as the treatment-and-nutrition piece of SD Group's "prevention–diagnosis–treatment" animal-health chain (Dealsite, 28 Oct 2025).
Strategy
Stated strategic themes (company releases, Feb–Aug 2026, paraphrased).
-
Selection and focus. Exit low-return, non-core subsidiaries and concentrate on pharmaceuticals and animal health. Management called 2025 a year of "overhaul" and 2026 the "first year of growth".
-
Higher-margin mix. Raise the share of in-house products (versus traded goods) and of export sales; cut production cost and fixed cost.
-
Product upgrades. An upgraded bacteriophage product with greatly improved heat stability (targeted for H1 2026), and an immune-enhancing feed additive aimed at foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza.
-
New-drug momentum. Management promised to unveil next-generation pipeline assets during 2026; none had been disclosed as of October 2026.
-
Overseas expansion. Add export countries and accounts through trade-show networks (SIAVS 2026 Brazil), registrations and supply partnerships in Latin America.
-
Bionote synergy. Bionote expects faster decisions under single control and combined animal-health capabilities: Bionote in diagnostics and veterinary antibody therapeutics, CTCBIO in vaccines, drugs, feed additives and GMP plants. The stated aim is a global total animal-healthcare group (Dealsite, 26 Sep 2025).
-
Adjacencies. Premium pet probiotics (Cosmax Pet, Mar 2026), OTC line extensions (Seenexin, Jun 2025) and the BASF excipient business.

Financial Narrative
Income statement (consolidated, KRW 100M)
The SG&A row is populated only where disclosed (DailyPharm, 18 Feb 2025). Zeros in FY2021, FY2024 and FY2025 mean NPD, not zero; 9M2024 SG&A was ₩41.3bn. Margins are computed from the reported revenue and profit lines. Revenue CAGR FY2021–FY2025: −3.1%. On the restated FY2024 base (1,199), FY2025 growth is +3.2%.
Ten-year context (consolidated, KRW 100M, per ETFshopping):
FY2016–FY2025 contains two operating-profit years (FY2022 and FY2025). DailyPharm's count of eight loss years in ten is consistent with this.
Commentary. Revenue peaked in FY2022 at ₩165.2bn. That year was helped by strong feed-additive demand (CTCZYME and phage) and by the switch to direct supply of animal drugs, which moved distributor margin into the parent. Revenue then fell in FY2023 as animal-health exports reversed and SG&A kept rising, which produced a ₩15.6bn net loss that included non-operating items. FY2024 stayed loss-making despite the Wonto launch, with the control dispute adding cost and distraction. FY2025 is the inflection year. Reported revenue fell 14.3% because liquidated subsidiaries left the consolidation scope and animal sales dropped, yet operating profit reached ₩6.2bn. The company attributes this to fixed-cost reductions, subsidiary liquidations and export growth (Financial News; Medical Times).
Quarterly trajectory (consolidated, KRW 100M)
Source: Google Finance quarterly statements (retrieved Oct 2026); gross profit and margins computed. Q1 2026 and Q2 2026 revenue add up to the reported H1 2026 consolidated revenue of ₩68.1bn (Newspim).
Commentary. Gross margin has stayed around 39–42%. The step-change in operating margin in 2026 came almost entirely from SG&A, which fell from about ₩10.3bn per quarter to ₩8.9bn, and from a richer mix of in-house products. Q1 2026 consolidated net income was ₩3.5bn (+451% YoY). Parent-only Q1 revenue rose 19% to ₩31.8bn and parent operating profit rose 2,705% to ₩4.6bn (Edaily, 12 May 2026). For H1 2026 the parent-only operating margin was 14.6%, against 4.3% in H1 2025 (Newspim).
Balance sheet (consolidated, KRW 100M)
Sources: Valueline (consolidated balance sheet incl. 2026/06); Digital Today (FY2024: assets 1,537, liabilities 841, equity 696); ETFshopping (debt ratios 96/120/121/97 for FY2022–FY2025 and FY2022 equity of 960). Valueline gives FY2022 equity as 939, and the table uses that figure. FY2021 equity was 850 with a 98% debt ratio (ETFshopping). Liabilities are derived as assets − equity.
Debt. Short-term borrowings rose from ₩28.9bn to ₩35.9bn after a ₩7.0bn bank borrowing on 25 Jul 2025, reportedly guaranteed by PharmaResearch; Dealsite gives the total as ₩35.8bn. Long-term borrowings, the short/long split at FY2025 and H1 2026, and net debt are NPD in the sources reviewed. THE VC records two convertible-bond issues (terms n/v). Goodwill and intangibles, and working capital, are also NPD.
Commentary. Total assets fell by about 23% between FY2022 and FY2025 as the group shrank and wrote down or exited subsidiaries. Equity bottomed at ₩69.6bn in FY2024 and has since recovered to ₩78.8bn on retained profit. Liabilities/equity fell from 121% to about 91%, and cash rebuilt to ₩21.9bn by June 2026.
Cash flow
Operating cash flow, capex, free cash flow and buybacks for FY2021–FY2025 are not publicly disclosed in the sources reviewed. No dividends were paid in the period (dividend yield 0.00%, StockHub). The company states that the restructured business has started generating stable cash flow (Financial News, Feb 2026). Investing.com's ProTips flag a strong free-cash-flow yield on a TTM basis; the underlying amount is n/v.
Ratios (computed from the tables above)
TTM ROE was 9.5–9.8% in August 2026 (Valueline; StockHub). ROIC, current ratio, net debt/EBITDA, interest coverage and cash conversion cycle are NPD because current liabilities, interest expense and working-capital detail were not available. TTM EBITDA to Q1 2026 was ₩17.7bn and TTM gross profit ₩52.8bn (Statbase).

Analyst Conclusions
Management guidance. No numeric guidance. Management has said H2 2026 will focus on high-value products and new export countries and accounts, using trade-show networks. Consensus: none, as there is no coverage.
Run-rate reference (reported, not a forecast). H1 2026 consolidated revenue was ₩68.1bn with operating profit of ₩8.4bn (12.3% margin). Q2 2026 operating profit (₩3.8bn) was below Q1 (₩4.6bn).
Bull case
-
Margin durability. Gross margin held at 39–42% while quarterly SG&A fell by about ₩1.5bn. If revenue stays around ₩34bn per quarter, the cost base supports double-digit operating margins.
-
Export optionality. CTCZYME's FDA approval, the Huvepharma network and LatAm registrations could revive the animal group, which reached ₩75.2bn of revenue in 2022.
-
Valuation and ownership. The stock trades at about 0.9x book and about 10x TTM earnings. A strategic owner with 31.74% that is building an animal-health chain raises the chance of integration value.
Bear case
-
Shrinking base. Revenue is 25% below its 2022 peak. The animal group fell 25% in 9M2025, so cost cuts may be masking structural decline.
-
Legal and IP overhang. Claims of ₩8.48bn against the company are large relative to H1 2026 consolidated net income of ₩6.1bn, and the first-instance phage-patent loss weakens its IP position.
-
Underinvestment and opacity. R&D expense of about 0.6% of revenue, no segment profit disclosure, no analyst coverage, and a record of governance volatility.

FY2026 business report (March 2027): cash flow, debt refinancing, dividend policy.
Analyst verdict. CTCBIO is a different company from the one that spent 2021–2024 in proxy fights. Its loss-making peripheral subsidiaries are gone, its board answers to a single strategic owner, and its cost base has been cut back hard. The evidence of improvement is real but recent. Consolidated operating profit went from losses in FY2023–FY2024 to ₩6.2bn in FY2025 and ₩8.4bn in H1 2026 alone. Parent-only margins of 14.6% are the best the business has posted in more than a decade. Gross margins held steady through the transition, so most of the gain comes from overhead discipline and product mix rather than one-off items.
The concern is the top line. Revenue has fallen to roughly 2016 levels. The animal group, which holds the company's best intellectual property, lost a quarter of its revenue in 2025. The large distribution agreements announced in 2023–24 have not yet produced a visible step-up in exports. Expensed R&D has been cut to a token amount, which helps near-term profit but makes the 2026 "new-drug momentum" pledge hard to assess. The iNtRON litigation adds both financial and intellectual-property uncertainty.
At about 0.9x book and 10x trailing earnings with no analyst coverage, the market prices CTCBIO as a governance-discounted micro-cap rather than a recovered specialty manufacturer. Re-rating probably requires three things in sequence. First, two or three more quarters of double-digit margins without further revenue erosion. Second, a concrete export win in Latin America or through Huvepharma. Third, a clear statement of how Bionote intends to combine the two animal-health platforms.
Until then, CTCBIO is best treated as a turnaround to monitor: operational improvement is evident, and the open questions are growth, legal outcomes and capital allocation. The next two quarterly reports and the first-instance iNtRON rulings are the key tests.
