Fertility services are procedures or treatments used to cure genetic and fertility issues and assist with conception. These services include assisted reproductive technology (ART) methods and drugs that help single parents, infertile couples and the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in planning a family.
Key factors such as declining fertility rate, technological advancements in fertility treatments, growth in the median age of first-time motherhood, and rise in obesity, along with consumption of alcohol/cigarettes, are leading to infertility which is eventually driving the market for fertility services. However, high procedural costs of assisted reproductive techniques in developed markets and ethical & social concerns related to ART treatment are hampering the overall growth of the fertility services market. Likewise, reimbursement for fertility treatment serves as an opportunity for the growth of the market.
The Fertility Services Market market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8.8% from 2016 to 2025.

Threat of New Entrants
The threat of new entrants is low in the global fertility services market. Any fertility drug or device manufacturing company or fertility services providers trying to enter the market is required to accept or abide by the mandatory regulatory standards. This market is also characterized by a reasonable degree of brand loyalty, where establishing a brand name is difficult for newcomers.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers
In the global fertility services market, suppliers are raw materials manufacturers for drug or device manufacturing companies. The bargaining power of suppliers is low as there is a high number of suppliers in the fertility services market. Additionally, the switching cost is low as no supplier can influence the prices and exercise control in the industry which makes the bargaining power low.
Threat of Substitutes
The threat of substitutes in the global fertility services market is moderate due to the presence of substitutes such as surrogacy and adoption. However, quality and trust issues for the products and services provided by the players, and excellent service provided by the existing players may restrict the threat by the substitutes to an extent.
Bargaining Power of Buyers
The bargaining power of buyers is moderate in the global fertility services market. The presence of buyers in the market is growing due to the increasing awareness about the different products, along with the rising prevalence rate of infertility. Additionally, the presence of providers is also growing, which makes the bargaining power of buyers moderate due to the low switching costs.
Intensity of Rivalry
The degree of competition in the global fertility services market is high. The restrained degree of product and service differentiation among existing players increases the intensity of rivalry in the market. Fertility service provider companies are trying to provide cost-effective services to make them more affordable. To overcome the competition, drug and device manufacturing players are engaged in developing a process to lower their manufacturing costs.

Analytical insights on Fertility Services Market covering market dynamics, competitive landscape, and strategic outlook.
The Fertility Services Market market is projected to reach $44.14B by 2025, growing at 8.8% CAGR. The Female Infertility segment holds the largest share.
Fertility services are procedures or treatments used to cure genetic and fertility issues and assist with conception. These services include assisted reproductive technology (ART) methods and drugs that help single parents, infertile couples, and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in planning a family.
Factors such as declining fertility rate, technological advancements in fertility treatments, growth in the median age of first-time motherhood, and rise in obesity, along with the consumption of alcohol/cigarettes, are leading to infertility which is eventually driving the market for fertility services. However, high procedural costs of assisted reproductive techniques in developed markets and ethical & social concerns related to the ART treatment is hampering the overall growth of the fertility services market.
Likewise, reimbursement for fertility treatment serves as an opportunity for the growth of the market.
Over the years, fertility services have witnessed high growth due to late marriages, improved contraceptive methods, and the growing number of women prioritizing their careers over starting a family which has also led to the growth in the median age of first-time motherhood. According to Eurostat, the mean age of women in the European Union (EU) on giving birth to their first child has increased from 28.7 in 2013 to 29.1 in 2017. Additionally, according to a report by the United Nations Department of Economics and Social Affairs World Fertility, the average age of first-time pregnancies in women has also risen over the years and was found to be higher in women in their late 20s or early 30s in France. As the median age for first-time motherhood keeps increasing, a growing number of women are expected to face complications in conceiving naturally which also leads to infertility. For instance, according to the National Center for health statistics, in 2015, the fertility rate was 62.5 births per 1,000 women, which dropped by 2% to 60.2 births per 1,000 women in 2017. This downfall in the fertility rate increases the number of women opting for ART treatments, which eventually drives the fertility services market.
The growing availability of funding and reimbursement for certain fertility treatments can be a huge opportunity for the market during the assessment period.
According to the data stated by the IVF Worldwide, in Austria, 70% of the treatment and drug costs for IVF/ICSI are reimbursed by IVF-fund in specific indications.Additionally, in Germany, patients up to 40 years of age for 4 IVF or IVF/ICSI cycles or 2 GIFT are reimbursed. Moreover, according to the ESHRE Fact Sheets 2017, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, and Slovenia are reputed to have the most generous reimbursement policies in Europe, with almost full coverage for up to six cycles of IVF. In addition, the extent of state support varies from around 90% in Belgium, France, Greece, Netherlands, and Slovenia, to 20 to 30% in Bulgaria, Romania, and Spain.
Hence, reimbursement for fertility treatment serves is expected to pose significant growth opportunities in the fertility services market during the forecast period.
Despite the growing adoption of fertility treatments, the high cost associated with the fertility treatment is hampering the growth of the market. According to the data mentioned by the Monash IVF Australia, the initial IVF cycle costs approximately USD 3065.22 (AUD 4,461) and subsequent IVF cycle after Medicare safety net costs approximately USD 2676.31 (AUD 3,895). Moreover, according to the CARE Fertility Group Limited (UK), IVF treatments cost USD 3340-3841 (3,000 to 3,450 Euros), Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) costs USD 890-950 (800 to850 Euros), and Intracytoplasmic sperm injection costs USD 1280-1503 (1,150 to 1,350 Euros) in the Europe region. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) lists the average price of an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle in the US to be USD 12,400. Thus, the high cost of assisted reproductive techniques to treat infertility is restraining the growth of this market.
Near-term growth will likely concentrate in modular bioreactor lines and closed-system media workflows that shorten validation cycles while preserving batch traceability.
Partnerships between CDMOs and instrumentation vendors should accelerate standard datasets for comparability across sites, improving forecasting models used in capacity planning.
Longer horizon, organoid and microphysiological adoption may reshape segment mix; teams that invest early in assay interoperability and cloud QC hooks are better positioned to capture upside without fragmenting their analytics stack.

Monash IVF Group is one of Australia's two largest private providers of assisted reproductive services (ARS). It ranked #2 nationally by stimulated-cycle market share in 1H26 (company presentation), with about 19.5–20.2% of the domestic stimulated-cycle market in FY26. The group combines three businesses: - IVF clinics across every mainland state - An integrated reproductive genetics laboratory - Specialist women's ultrasound practices in Victoria, NSW and WA A growing South-East Asian network in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia adds to this. The company's heritage reaches back to the Monash University team behind several of the world's earliest IVF milestones in the 1970s and 1980s. That scientific legacy remains central to its brand. Since 2025, the investment case has been reshaped by four factors: - Two embryo-transfer incidents - A wholesale leadership and board renewal - A cyclical slowdown in domestic IVF demand - Two rejected control proposals from a consortium of WHSP and Genesis Capital, which holds about 19.6% The new CEO, Dr Victoria Atkinson, is executing the "Nurture 2030" plan. --- ### Company's own description In the FY26 Directors' Report, Monash IVF describes itself as a leader in human fertility services and one of the leading ARS providers in Australia and South-East Asia. It notes that ARS is the most significant component of fertility care. It describes ARS as the range of techniques used to help infertile patients achieve a clinical pregnancy, including reproductive genetic services. It adds that the Group is also a significant provider of specialised women's imaging and diagnostic services (paraphrased from FY26 Financial Report, "Principal activities"). ### Independent characterisation Monash IVF is a vertically integrated, clinic-based healthcare services operator. Its economics resemble a hybrid of specialist day-hospital operator, laboratory business and consumer-facing elective health brand. **Revenue mix.** Revenue is overwhelmingly service revenue. There is no product, subscription or licensing revenue of note. It comprises: - Patient fees for IVF cycles: stimulated cycles, frozen embryo transfers (FETs), donor and surrogacy programs, and egg freezing - Embryology laboratory services - Day-surgery facility fees (egg pick-ups and related procedures) - Genetics testing: PGT-A, PGT-M, PGT-SR, carrier screening and NIPT - Embryo, egg and sperm storage fees - Ultrasound scan fees **Doctor relationships.** Fertility specialists are largely independent practitioners who refer into and practise within Monash facilities. Doctor attraction and retention is therefore the single most important lever on volumes. In FY26, 13 new specialists and 3 trainees joined (FY26 presentation). **Payers.** In Australia, patients receive partial reimbursement through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS items 13200/13201 for stimulated cycles) and the Extended Medicare Safety Net. Out-of-pocket costs are material, so the business carries a consumer-affordability sensitivity. Management has argued that this relationship is not linear (FY26 results commentary reported by AAP). Private health insurance covers some hospital components. **Value chain position.** Monash owns the clinic and laboratory infrastructure, the day hospitals, the genetics lab and the ultrasound practices. It sources consumables, culture media, embryoscopes and pharmaceuticals from third-party suppliers. Electronic witnessing technology (Matcher®) was being rolled out in FY25. **Customer types:** - Couples and individuals with infertility - Same-sex couples and single women (donor programs) - Fertility-preservation patients (elective egg freezing; oncology) - Pregnant women (obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound, NIPT) - Carrier-screening patients - International medical tourists in South-East Asia, especially Johor Bahru and Bali **End-markets.**
