The apple juice concentrates market is projected to witness steady market growth, registering a CAGR of 4.3% over the forecast period. The major factors driving the market growth are increasing demand for natural plant-based ingredients, the growing popularity of convenience food & beverage, and its increasing use as a substitute for sugar in bakery products across the globe. However, the growing demand for not from concentrate (NFC) and cold-pressed juices is expected to hamper the growth of the global market. Nevertheless, the increasing consciousness regarding is expected to create immense growth opportunities for the market players during the assessment period.
With the increasing health concerns among consumers, the demand for products made from natural and healthy ingredients is on the rise. Apple is a rich source of antioxidants, flavonoids, and dietary fiber, which help in reducing the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. Being natural and healthy, apple juice concentrate is used as a suitable substitute for various synthetic ingredients in food & beverage applications. Several producers of food products and beverages are shifting toward natural nutrient-rich ingredients that offer several health benefits.
An increase in health consciousness around the world has resulted in consumers shunning artificially sweetened and heavily processed beverages in favor of natural alternatives such as plant-based beverages. The use of botanicals including apple juice concentrate has increased in the manufacturing of beverages. The growing adoption of flexitarian and vegan diets has led manufacturers of plant-based beverages to expand their product offerings. Besides, a majority of the population across the world, especially in Europe and North America, are shifting their preferences toward plant-based beverages. The hike in demand for plant-based beverages can be attributed to an increase in health consciousness around the world. As per Wantstats analysis, the global plant-based beverages market is projected to register an impressive CAGR of 8.50% during the forecast period of 2018 to 2023. Among the key regions, Europe garnered the largest revenue share of the global plant-based beverages market in 2017 and is expected to maintain its dominance during the forecast period.
Thus, the rising demand for natural plant-based ingredients in various food & beverage applications is driving the growth of the global market for apple juice concentrate.
The trend of adopting a healthy lifestyle is rapidly increasing among consumers. The general population across the globe is particularly focusing on consuming natural food products and beverages. Apple juice concentrate is versatile in nature along with its neutral color and flavor. In addition, it allows the product to be labeled as “real fruit juice”. Cold-pressed juices help to fight toxins as well as helps in detoxifying and boosting immunity. They are rich in mineral and vitamin content. The increasing demand for not from concentrate (NFC) and cold-pressed juices are projected to hinder the growth of the global apple juice concentrate market during the forecast period. According to Wantstats Analysis, the cold-pressed juice market is projected to reach UDS 3.99 billion by 2023, registering a CAGR of 9.5%.
Cold-pressed juices are also referred to as HPP juices that are cold-pressed and processed using high-pressure processing (HPP) technology without affecting the fresh and natural characteristics of the ingredients. These juices are healthy as compared to pasteurized fruits and vegetable juices. Cold-pressed juices have a long shelf life, and hence can be easily transported to long distances. Besides, increasing investments in R&D has led to the introduction of new product lines of cold-pressed juices and new varieties in terms of flavor, packaging, and specialty ingredients, which has attracted more consumers toward cold-pressed juices.
Furthermore, the rapid increase in the demand for not from concentrate (NFC) juices is also projected to hamper the growth of the global apple juice concentrate market. The growing awareness pertaining to natural food products is propelling the demand for NFC juices and this trend is projected to continue during the forecast period.
In countries such as Germany and the UK, the clean label trend is more established, and it has become more of an expectation than a selling point. The clean label originated from consumers' interest in naturalness in food and drinks, where they prefer ’clean label’ products that contain very few additives and artificial ingredients as possible. Consumers, majorly across the US, are emphasizing on promoting natural food products in order to sustain a healthy life-trend. “On-the-go” convenience consumption and high nutritional value of functional beverages with natural ingredients are factors driving the demand for clean label products. Thus, the growing demand for clean label products is expected to be the major challenge for producers who use synthetic additives in the processing of apple juice concentrate. This challenge can be overcome by using natural additives in the processing of the concentrates.
Near-term growth will likely concentrate in modular bioreactor lines and closed-system media workflows that shorten validation cycles while preserving batch traceability.
Partnerships between CDMOs and instrumentation vendors should accelerate standard datasets for comparability across sites, improving forecasting models used in capacity planning.
Longer horizon, organoid and microphysiological adoption may reshape segment mix; teams that invest early in assay interoperability and cloud QC hooks are better positioned to capture upside without fragmenting their analytics stack.
