Diameter has consistently gained industry wide acceptance in standards most significantly in the Release 8 and 7 of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) specification. Diameter serves a crucial function in communication and as the telecom operators have migrated their networks to Long Term Evolution (LTE) and have added and implemented new services and more sophisticated policies the signaling volumes are skyrocketing. Due to rapid growth in the number of LTE devices, particularly tablets and smartphones, the Diameter messages in the 4G Evolved Packet Core has increased. The early adoption of LTE found that there occur congestion problems across multiple instances of the network due to the high amount of signaling traffic. The Diameter Routing Agent (DRA) reduces the “mesh” of signaling connections across multiple network elements and provides load balancing, traffic management and session binding. When a network operator migrates from older networking technologies to LTE network, there occurs incompatibility between the signaling systems. However, the Diameter Interworking Function (IWF) allows 4G networks to interoperate with older networks like 3G and 2G.
Global Diameter Signaling market has generated a revenue of USD 1643.27 million in 2018 and is expected to reach a market value of USD 20149.58 million by 2025 growing at an 44.81% CAGR. North America accounts for 16% market share in the Diameter Signaling market due to high smartphone penetration rate and the mobile subscriptions have reached at a saturation level.

View Subscription PlansDiameter signaling is used by a broad range of network elements for the exchange of information related to session tracking, device tracking, data usage, and others. A Diameter node can exchange the information with another Diameter node, either directly or through the intermediary nodes called agents, due to the peer-to-peer architecture of the diameter. The diameter signaling controllers provide communication service that overcomes diameter signaling scalability, performance, and interoperability challenges in IP Multimedia Systems (IMS) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks. Diameter is a next-gen industry-standard protocol that is used to exchange authorization, authentication, and accounting (AAA) information in IMS and LTE networks. The proliferation of smartphones and increasing mobile traffic boosts the volume of Diameter signaling.
Diameter signaling includes Diameter Edge Agent (DEA) defined by GSMA, Diameter Routing Agent (DRA) defined by 3GPP, and Diameter Interworking Function (IWF) defined by both 3GPP and GSMA.

The Diameter Signaling Market market is projected to reach $20.15B by 2025, growing at 41.6% CAGR. The Diameter Routing Agent segment holds the largest share.
Over the last five years, the ownership of smartphones has increased significantly, thereby leading to high use of the Internet among individuals. The advancements in technology have increased the use of smartphones, as various mobile applications are being developed every year, generating a significant amount of data, thereby resulting in considerable data traffic. According to Excelacom Inc., 58,520 applications are is downloaded by end users per minute from Apple's App Store. Furthermore, various mobile-based applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Uber, which use the Internet for sharing data and information is also increasing. Therefore, with an increase in data generated on a daily basis, there has been a rise in the requirement for Diameter signaling. According to GSMA, in 2017, there were more than 3.3 billion mobiles Internet users, and this number is estimated to reach 5.0 billion by 2025. The increasing use of the Internet is driving the current market, and this growth is expected to continue during the coming years.Developing 4G and LTE market:
The increasing use of 4G and LTE mobile network technology is also attracting users by providing affordable data tariffs and reliable networks, among others, which allow the consumers to access online content, social media apps, and websites on their smart phones. Similarly, the network service providers are migrating current platform to LTE which offers different features to the users. The change in behavior of subscribers is driving the growth of the LTE Diameter signaling market across the globe. Hence the signaling process and their impact are becoming very important. Additionally, the rise in the adoption of LTE technology and VoLTE by various countries in their network infrastructure for reliable Internet access and better communication are also expected to drive the market significantly in the coming years.
The continuous usage of smartphones, tablets, and IoT devices is leading to high data generation, leading to data traffic. Moreover, the implementation of LTE technology has led to an increase the utilization of the Internet across the globe by providing a reliable network and connectivity among the devices. According to Oracle, globally, 595 million messages per second (MPS) are expected to be generated by 2021. The data generated from connected cars, mobile phones, smart devices, VoLTE and others are increasing the data traffic which is increasing the need for Diameter signaling at a global level.
The 5G technology is expected to influence almost every field of communication and content delivery. With advancements in IP-based delivery for both video and data content, 5G technology is expected to transform the future of various industries. The 5G technology is a wireless standard that operates on a wide variety of frequencies; it is mainly divided into spectrum of two groups as FR1 (450 MHz–6 GHz) and FR2 (24 GHz–52 GHz) (millimeter wave spectrum). The mainstream wireless networks operate on the low & mid-band spectrum associated with FR1, which travels greater distances, thus ensuring a stronger network reach. The networks utilizing this infrastructure offers higher speed, capacity, and lower latency as compared to the existing networks. Thus, the increasing speed of the Internet is expected to generate a large amount of data, which is expected to drive the market during the forecast period. Moreover, in broadcasting, the adoption of 5G technology is expected provide a wide range of frequencies that will enable increased use of traditional wireless spectrum for the distribution of audio and video content as well as digital radio.
The use of High-Power High-Tower (5G-HTHP) technology for broadcasting can offer widescale distribution of content in the existing broadcast frequency range without the requirement of any additional frequency spectrum. Furthermore, the broadcasters can use the broadband capabilities of 5G, coupled with the image quality, reception, and audio improvements from ATSC 3.0 to transform the broadcast transmission. During the forecast period, the introduction and advancements in 5G network are expected to register high investments from broadcasters to gain a better understanding of viewing preferences and consumer behavior.
Roaming complexity is one of the major factors expected to hinder the growth of the market for Diameter signaling. Roaming complexity has been categorized as 4G roaming, 3G, 2G to 4G and vice versa, Wi-Fi roaming, and international roaming. It is difficult for network providers to offer and support the global VoLTE as it is dependent on various factors such as the country, region, device, or technology with which a device can communicate with. Diameter signaling has to deal with scenarios such as end-to-end LTE and VoLTE calls, calls initiated from VoLTE that are connected with fixed-line and vice-versa, calls which are initiated form VoLTE and are connecting with non-VoLTE devices and vice-versa. This complex environment and system between the network service providers are expected to hinder the market growth until all the providers come up together to address the issue and form policies accordingly.
Near-term growth will likely concentrate in modular bioreactor lines and closed-system media workflows that shorten validation cycles while preserving batch traceability.
Partnerships between CDMOs and instrumentation vendors should accelerate standard datasets for comparability across sites, improving forecasting models used in capacity planning.
Longer horizon, organoid and microphysiological adoption may reshape segment mix; teams that invest early in assay interoperability and cloud QC hooks are better positioned to capture upside without fragmenting their analytics stack.
