The hydraulic system uses liquid (usually oil) to transmit power and has few advantages over electrical and mechanical. Oil leakage in hydraulic components is a major issue that leads to dipping away of company profits with other factors such as more energy consumption, reduced performance of the equipment, decreased reliability, and increased costs of the fluid. Internal leakage in hydraulic components also results from power system design and poor quality control tolerances during the manufacturing of the hydraulic components. In hydraulic valves, excessive leakage results in decreased stability of the hydraulic circuits. Similarly, in hydraulic cylinders, excessive leakage is the result of the fluid bypassing a piston through a worn seal or cylinder barrel.
