Forecasting Techniques
We at Wantstats follow an extensive process for arriving at market estimations, which involves the use of multiple forecasting techniques as mentioned below.
Research Methodology for Market size estimation
Understanding the market in terms of valuation is a crucial task. This becomes significantly important while investing in and choosing the correct business opportunities. In this regard, we at Wantstats undertake two market sizing approaches simultaneously, namely, the top-down and bottom-up approaches. In this step, we assess different data points, numeric attributes, information, and industry trends to arrive at the estimates and forecast values for the coming years. We use different mathematical models to estimate the market sizes of different economies and segments, each of which is further summed up to define the total market.
We at Wantstats employ a proprietary statistical tool for market estimations, which helps us to arrive at market size estimates and forecasts for different markets and industries.
Bottom-UP approach
In the bottom-up approach, the revenue of key companies and their shares in the market are assessed to deduce the market size. More than 25 key players operating in the Global Amines market are studied. The segmental revenue of each player is analyzed and the size for the Global Amines market is extracted from the segmental/product revenue with the help of secondary and primary research. The extracted size for the market is then validated with industry experts and partner consultants. This derived market size contributes to around 65%–70% of the total global market share in terms of revenue for the Global Amines market. Using the data triangulation method, the overall global market size is estimated.
Top-Down approach
The overall market size is then used in the top-down procedure to estimate the size of the other sub-markets with the help of percentage splits of the market segments from secondary and primary research. The demand-side analysis is conducted, in which the expenditure of major industry players in each region is studied.
The countries considered in the scope of the Global Amines market are the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, China, Japan, India, Australia & New Zealand, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and others. However, the number of countries varies according to the market. The figure below depicts the process of market estimation using independent tools employed by our analysts to arrive at the sizing of the market.
As a part of the market engineering, the both top-down and bottom-up approaches are utilized along with data triangulation models to derive and verify the market sizes and forecast over the coming years.
Data Triangulation
After arriving at the overall market sizes, the total market is divided into several segments and sub-segments. Again, the market breakdown and data triangulation procedures are implemented, wherever applicable, to complete the overall market engineering process and gather the exact statistics for all segments and sub-segments. The data is triangulated by studying various factors and trends from the demand and supply sides. Along with this, the market size is validated using the top-down and bottom-up approaches.
Validation
Validation is the most important stage of the report making process. Validation via an intricately designed feedback process helps us finalize the sizing estimates and forecast for the final collation. Extensive primary research is performed to verify the information. This includes telephonic and personal interviews, e-mails, feedback forms, questionnaires, and polling options/answers with a group of relevant industry participants. Validation helps to duly check the authenticity of the key industry trends, market dynamics, company market share, different business models, and conclusions.

Evonik is Germany's second-largest listed chemicals group after BASF and one of Europe's broadest pure-play specialty chemicals companies, generating €14.1bn of sales and €1.87bn adjusted EBITDA in FY2025. Since April 2025 it has been organised into two operating segments — Custom Solutions (formulated, application-driven specialties for coatings, personal care, pharma, and industrial additives) and Advanced Technologies (scale- and technology-driven platforms in silica, hydrogen peroxide, high-performance polymers, crosslinkers and animal-nutrition amino acids) — plus an Infrastructure segment (SYNEQT site services, Oxeno C4 chemicals) earmarked for divestment. Its competitive identity rests on deep process know-how, integrated German Verbund sites (Marl, Wesseling, Rheinfelden, Essen, Hanau), and leadership positions in global niches (fumed silica, DL-methionine, PA12, pharma excipients/lipids). The investment case is a transformation story — €400m-plus cost reduction, portfolio pruning, deleveraging — now overlaid by a live takeover approach from BASF and a near-majority foundation shareholder whose stance is pivotal. --- ### Company self-description Evonik describes itself as a global chemical company that goes "beyond chemistry" by combining innovative strength with leading technological expertise, providing customers with a competitive advantage through tailor-made products and solutions — positioning itself as a "superforce for industry" (company boilerplate, press releases 2026; Company Factbook 2026). Its stated strategic pillars (Capital Markets Day, 22 May 2025) are: a differentiated portfolio in two segments, sustainable innovation, a balanced regional footprint (ambition of roughly one-third of sales in each of Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific), and a performance culture. ### Independent characterisation Evonik is a mid-cap, diversified specialty and "semi-specialty" chemicals manufacturer. Roughly 80% of FY2025 sales (€11.5bn of €14.1bn) came from the two core segments; the remaining ~18–19% came from Infrastructure & Other, which bundles low-margin site services and the cyclical C4 (Oxeno) petrochemical chain. The business is overwhelmingly a product business (manufactured chemicals sold B2B under supply contracts, frame agreements and spot), with smaller service/contract components: (i) pharma CDMO and contract manufacturing (Health Care — lipids/LNPs, drug substances, oral drug delivery), (ii) site infrastructure and utility services sold by SYNEQT to ~two dozen third-party companies in the Marl and Wesseling chemical parks, and (iii) licensing/technology (e.g., HPPO hydrogen peroxide technology with partners; catalysts). Subscription revenue is negligible. Precise revenue-model split (product vs service vs licensing) is n/d. ### Value-chain position Evonik sits mid-stream: it buys petrochemical feedstocks (C4 raffinate, propylene, methanol, ammonia, natural gas/energy, silicon metal, sulphur) and converts them into intermediates and formulated specialties sold to formulators and OEMs. Upstream integration is partial (own C4 cracking downstream of refinery/cracker streams at Marl and Antwerp; own HCN and methionine chain in Antwerp, Mobile and Singapore). Downstream, it rarely sells to consumers; its products are ingredients typically <5% of the customer's cost but critical to performance ("small cost share, high value-in-use"), which supports pricing power in the specialty businesses. ### Customer types and end markets Customers include paint and coatings formulators, adhesives and sealants makers, tyre and rubber producers (silica/silanes), cosmetic and household-care brands, pharmaceutical and biotech companies (excipients, lipids, CDMO), animal-feed mills and integrators (methionine), plastics and automotive suppliers (PA12, PEEK), aerospace (ROHACELL foams), pulp & paper, electronics and semiconductors (high-purity silanes/chlorosilanes, H2O2), renewable energy and hydrogen (membranes, catalysts), and biodiesel producers (alkoxide catalysts). End-market exposure is broad: consumer/personal care, health care, food/feed, automotive and mobility, construction, coatings, industrial, energy/agriculture. A precise end-market % split for FY2025 is n/d in sources reviewed.
BASF is the world's largest chemical company by sales, built on the Verbund principle of physically and energetically integrated production sites that turn a handful of feedstocks into thousands of products. Since September 2024 it has run under the "Winning Ways" strategy, which splits the portfolio into four core segments (Chemicals, Materials, Industrial Solutions, Nutrition & Care) that stay integrated, and standalone businesses (Agricultural Solutions, Battery Materials, Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions, and the now-divested Coatings) that are being monetized or prepared for capital-market options. In 2025 it generated €59.7 billion in sales and €6.6 billion in EBITDA before special items, a cyclical trough. In 2026 it closed the €7.7 billion Coatings transaction, started up its €-multi-billion Zhanjiang Verbund site, raised earnings guidance, and approached Evonik about a takeover. The investment debate is whether structural cost cuts and portfolio proceeds can restore returns above the cost of capital. --- **The company's own description.** BASF describes its purpose with the line "we create chemistry for a sustainable future" (BASF news release boilerplate, 2026) and states its ambition to be the preferred chemical company for enabling customers' green transformation. It reports around 108,000 employees, customers in nearly every sector and almost every country, and sales of around €60 billion in 2025. The portfolio is described as four core segments plus standalone businesses bundled in Surface Technologies and Agricultural Solutions. **Independent characterization.** BASF is best understood as three businesses under one roof: 1. **An integrated commodity and intermediates engine** (Chemicals, the Monomers half of Materials). This is a steam-cracker-to-derivatives chain selling ethylene and propylene derivatives, isocyanates, polyamide precursors and intermediates on spread economics. Earnings are driven by feedstock and energy costs, operating rates and regional supply-demand. It is the most capital-intensive part of the group and the main source of the 2023–2025 earnings decline: Chemicals EBITDA before special items fell from €1,342 million in 2024 to €853 million in 2025 (Factsheet FY2025). 2. **Formulated and performance products** (Performance Materials, Industrial Solutions, Nutrition & Care). These sell on specification and performance to automotive, construction, packaging, consumer goods, pharma and nutrition customers. Margins are steadier but have come under pressure from Asian competition and, in Care Chemicals, from consumer trading-down to private-label products (Factsheet FY2025 commentary). 3. **Standalone franchises** with different industry logic: Agricultural Solutions (crop protection, seeds and traits, digital farming), ECMS (emissions catalysts plus precious-metal trading and recycling) and Battery Materials. Agricultural Solutions is the group's highest-margin segment at 21.7% EBITDA margin before special items in FY2025 and the largest single earnings contributor at €2,081 million. **Revenue model.** Revenue is almost entirely product sales under supply contracts and spot transactions. There is no subscription model of consequence; digital farming (xarvio) and licensing of process technology and catalysts are small. Seeds and traits include royalty and licensing income within Agricultural Solutions, not separately disclosed. Precious-metal trading inflates ECMS sales (€7,978 million in FY2025) with pass-through metal value, which is why BASF quotes group margins both including and excluding metals (12.3% excluding metals in FY2025 per the CFO on the February 27, 2026 call, versus 11.0% reported). **Value chain position.** Upstream to midstream in petrochemicals with captive crackers at Ludwigshafen, Antwerp, Port Arthur (joint venture with TotalEnergies), Nanjing (joint venture with Sinopec) and Zhanjiang; midstream to downstream in engineering plastics, polyurethane systems, dispersions, additives, surfactants and vitamins; branded and channel-driven in agriculture. BASF exited upstream oil and gas operations when Wintershall Dea's E&P business was transferred to Harbour Energy in September 2024. **Customers and end-markets.** BASF serves industrial customers in chemicals and plastics, transportation, construction, consumer goods, agriculture, electronics, energy and resources, and health and nutrition. Intersegment transfers are large (Chemicals transferred €3,432 million internally in FY2025 on €10,055 million of third-party sales), which shows how much of the upstream output feeds BASF's own downstream chains.
