Market Overview
The global permethric acid chloride market was valued at USD 21.253 Million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 31.539 Million by 2032, registering a CAGR of 5.79% during 2026–2032. The market has expanded steadily from USD 17.878 Million in 2022 to USD 20.067 Million in 2024, and is expected to add USD 10.286 Million in absolute value between 2025 and 2032.
Permethric acid chloride, also known as DV-acid chloride or cypermethric acid chloride (CMAC), is the acylating intermediate that carries the 3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane moiety into the most widely used synthetic pyrethroid insecticides. It is reacted with 3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol to produce permethrin, and with m-phenoxybenzaldehyde and sodium cyanide to produce cypermethrin and its isomer-enriched variants. Because the intermediate has no meaningful end use of its own, demand is a direct function of pyrethroid technical production for agriculture, public health vector control, animal health, household insecticides and topical pharmaceutical applications.
The market is small in value terms but strategically important. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce, in the anti-dumping petition on cypermethrin filed in 2024, recorded that around 0.565 tonne of DV-acid chloride is consumed per tonne of cypermethrin and that DV-acid chloride and m-phenoxybenzaldehyde together account for roughly 63–83% of cypermethrin production cost. Control over this intermediate therefore largely determines the cost position of pyrethroid producers, which explains why most leading suppliers manufacture it captively within backward-integrated pyrethroid chains in India and China.
Key Findings
By Downstream Product: Permethrin is both the largest and the fastest-growing segment, accounting for 55.0% of the market in 2025 (USD 11.689 Million) and expanding at a CAGR of 6.05% to reach USD 17.660 Million by 2032.
By Purity: The 98% & Above grade is both the largest and the fastest-growing segment, with a 80.0% share in 2025 (USD 17.002 Million) and a CAGR of 6.18%.
By Region: Asia Pacific is the leading region, with a 78.0% share in 2025 (USD 16.577 Million). Middle East & Africa is the fastest-growing region, with a CAGR of 7.13%.
By Country: China is the leading country, valued at USD 9.615 Million in 2025 (45.2% of the global market). The UAE is the fastest-growing country, with a CAGR of 7.81%.
Segmentation Summary
By Downstream Product, the market is divided into Permethrin and Cypermethrin & Others. Permethrin held 55.0% of 2025 value, supported by its broad use in public health vector control, factory-treated clothing, livestock and companion animal products, and topical treatments for scabies and head lice. Cypermethrin & Others, which covers cypermethrin and other DV-acid-based pyrethroids such as alpha-, beta- and zeta-cypermethrin and cyfluthrin, held 45.0% (USD 9.564 Million) and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 5.46%, driven mainly by generic crop protection demand.
By Purity, the market is divided into 98% & Above and Below 98%. Pyrethroid technical producers that supply regulated markets require assay levels of at least 98% to meet the technical-grade specifications registered with authorities, which is why the 98% & Above grade held 80.0% of 2025 value. The Below 98% grade (USD 4.251 Million in 2025) is used mainly in cost-driven domestic production and is projected to grow at a slower CAGR of 4.08%.
By Region, Asia Pacific dominates because China and India host most global pyrethroid technical capacity. Latin America (CAGR 6.94%) and Middle East & Africa (CAGR 7.13%) are the fastest-growing regions, while North America (4.96%) and Europe (4.74%) are mature, regulation-led markets.
Competitive Landscape Summary
The market is moderately consolidated and highly integrated. Most permethric acid chloride is produced captively by pyrethroid technical manufacturers and consumed in-house, with a smaller merchant trade in which Indian producers are the principal sellers. Leading participants include Gharda Chemicals, Heranba Industries, Meghmani Organics, Hemani Industries and Tagros Chemicals India in India; Bayer, through its Vapi pyrethroid site in Gujarat; and Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical in China. Integrated pyrethroid suppliers such as Bharat Rasayan, UPL and Sumitomo Chemical shape demand downstream. Competition is driven by cost position across the DV-acid chloride and m-phenoxybenzaldehyde chain, isomer-ratio control, environmental compliance and access to export registrations.
Challenges and Opportunities
The main challenges are cyclical pricing and trade friction. Chinese cypermethrin prices fell from about RMB 105,000 per tonne in October 2021 to about RMB 56,500 per tonne by May 2024 as distributors destocked. China then imposed final anti-dumping duties of 48.4% to 166.2% on Indian cypermethrin from May 2025, reshaping intermediate flows between the two largest producing countries. Regulatory scrutiny of pyrethroids is also increasing: in the European Union, cypermethrin was renewed only as a candidate for substitution, and in malaria control, insecticide resistance is shifting procurement toward dual-active-ingredient nets.
Opportunities lie in isomer-enriched and high-assay grades for alpha- and beta-cypermethrin and specified-ratio permethrin; in supplier diversification by global formulators seeking alternatives to single-country sourcing; and in fast-growing agricultural and vector-control demand in Latin America, Africa and South Asia.
Future Outlook
The market is expected to grow steadily, from USD 22.503 Million in 2026 to USD 31.539 Million in 2032. Growth will be anchored in Asia Pacific, which is projected to reach USD 24.661 Million by 2032, while the fastest gains will come from Middle East & Africa and Latin America. Permethrin and high-purity grades are expected to gain share gradually, reflecting stricter technical specifications and the continued role of permethrin in public health and personal protection. Capacity commissioned in India during 2023–2025 and new integrated capacity in China are expected to keep supply adequate, so price recovery will depend mainly on downstream inventory normalization and agricultural demand.
The Permethric Acid Chloride Market market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% from 2022 to 2032.

Permethric acid chloride is 3-(2,2-dichloroethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane-1-carbonyl chloride (CAS No. 52314-67-7; molecular formula C8H9Cl3O). It is the acid chloride of permethric acid (DV-acid) and is traded under several names, including DV-acid chloride, DV-acyl chloride, cypermethric acid chloride (CMAC) and dichlorovinyl dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid chloride. It is a corrosive, moisture-sensitive liquid, supplied as a mixture of cis and trans isomers. Commercial specifications set a minimum assay, limits on free acid and residual thionyl chloride, and a cis:trans ratio. Standard material is typically close to 50:50, and high-cis and high-trans grades are produced for specific downstream pyrethroids.
In downstream synthesis, permethric acid chloride is esterified with 3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol to produce permethrin. For cypermethrin and its isomer-enriched forms (alpha-, beta-, theta- and zeta-cypermethrin), it is condensed with m-phenoxybenzaldehyde in the presence of sodium cyanide. Cyfluthrin and beta-cyfluthrin use the same acid chloride with 4-fluoro-3-phenoxybenzaldehyde.
Included in the scope: permethric acid chloride of all isomer ratios and purity grades, whether sold on the merchant market or produced and consumed captively by integrated pyrethroid manufacturers, valued at the intermediate stage.
Excluded from the scope: the free acid (DV-acid) and DV esters (methyl or ethyl permethrate) when traded as such; other pyrethroid acid chlorides such as the dibromovinyl acid chloride used for deltamethrin, the trifluoromethyl acid chloride used for lambda-cyhalothrin and bifenthrin, and chrysanthemic acid chloride; and downstream pyrethroid technicals and formulations.

View Subscription PlansIntroduction
The global permethric acid chloride market is moderately consolidated. A limited number of integrated pyrethroid manufacturers in India and China account for most production, and a large share of output is consumed captively in their own permethrin and cypermethrin plants. The merchant market is comparatively thin and is supplied mainly by Indian producers that sell specific grades and surplus volumes to other technical manufacturers. Competition is based on cost position across the full chain (DV-acid chloride together with m-phenoxybenzaldehyde or 3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol), consistency of assay and isomer ratio, environmental compliance, scale, and access to registrations in export markets.
Competitive intensity rose during 2022–2024 as Chinese capacity additions and global destocking pushed pyrethroid prices down. It peaked with China's anti-dumping investigation into Indian cypermethrin, initiated in May 2024 on a petition from Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical, which led to final duties of 48.4% to 166.2% from May 2025. Indian producers have responded by commissioning new integrated capacity, diversifying export destinations and moving into branded formulations and contract manufacturing.

Competitor Dashboard
The dashboard rates each company on product portfolio, regional presence, strategic alliances and industry experience, based on its position in the permethric acid chloride and pyrethroid value chain.
Threat of New Entrants – Low
Hazardous chemistry, process safety requirements and environmental clearances create high entry barriers and long lead times for new plants.
Incumbents benefit from integrated chains and established isomer-control know-how, giving them structural cost advantages.
Customer qualification and registration-linked specifications make it slow for a new supplier to win business.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers – Medium
Key inputs such as thionyl chloride, solvents and alkalis are widely available commodities.
Specialized precursors (dichlorodiene, diazoacetate and telomer-route intermediates) have fewer sources and are often produced captively.
Controls on carbon tetrachloride and environmental restrictions in chemical clusters can tighten supply periodically.
Bargaining Power of Buyers – Medium
Merchant buyers are a relatively small number of pyrethroid technical producers that can switch between Indian and Chinese suppliers.
Much of the volume is captive, which limits the share of the market exposed to buyer negotiation.
Buyers that need specified isomer ratios or high-assay grades have fewer qualified suppliers and less leverage.
Threat of Substitutes – Medium
Within pyrethroids, lambda-cyhalothrin, bifenthrin and deltamethrin, which use different acid intermediates, compete with cypermethrin and permethrin in many crops and applications.
Other chemical classes such as diamides, neonicotinoids, organophosphates and newer vector-control active ingredients can replace pyrethroids where resistance or regulation limits their use.
There is no chemical substitute for DV-acid chloride in the manufacture of permethrin and cypermethrin themselves.
Intensity of Competitive Rivalry – High
Competition between Chinese and Indian integrated producers is intense and has led to trade remedy action.
Pyrethroid price cycles and periodic overcapacity drive aggressive pricing for both technicals and intermediates.
Products are largely standardized, so competition centers on cost, consistency and supply reliability.
Threat of New Entrants: Low; Hazardous chemistry, clearances and integrated incumbents.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Medium; Commodity reagents, but specialized and regulated precursors.
Bargaining Power of Buyers: Medium; Concentrated merchant buyers; large captive share.
Threat of Substitutes: Medium; Competing pyrethroids and other chemical classes.
Competitive Rivalry: High; China–India price competition and trade friction.

Analytical insights on Permethric Acid Chloride Market covering market dynamics, competitive landscape, and strategic outlook.
The Permethric Acid Chloride Market market is projected to reach $31.54M by 2032, growing at 5.8% CAGR. The Permethrin segment holds the largest share.
Demand for permethric acid chloride derives entirely from the production of permethrin, cypermethrin and related pyrethroids, so market dynamics follow pyrethroid end markets in agriculture, public health and animal health, together with the cost and supply conditions of the integrated production chain. This chapter assesses the macro and micro factors affecting the market, followed by the main drivers, restraints, opportunities, trends and challenges. The impact scores in the growth factor table are analyst assessments based on secondary research and primary interviews, rated on a scale of 1 (minimal impact) to 10 (very strong impact) for each forecast sub-period.
Sustained Public Health and Personal-Protection Demand for Permethrin
Permethrin remains one of the most widely used insecticides in public health. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, permethrin has been registered in the United States since 1979 and is the most widely used adulticide for mosquito control, applied to an estimated 9–10 million acres each year. It is also the only active ingredient registered for factory-applied insect-repellent clothing; use on military uniforms was approved in 1990 and consumer factory-treated clothing was first registered in 2003. In human health, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists permethrin 5% cream as a first-line treatment for scabies, and lower-strength lotions are used for head lice. In malaria-endemic regions, permethrin-treated nets such as Sumitomo Chemical's Olyset Net and Olyset Plus remain on the Global Fund's list of eligible insecticide-treated nets. Together these applications create steady, largely non-cyclical demand that underpins the Permethrin segment's leading position and its projected CAGR of 6.05%.
Broad-Spectrum, Cost-Effective Crop Protection Using Cypermethrin
Cypermethrin and its isomer-enriched variants are among the most widely used generic insecticides for cotton, vegetables, fruit, soybean and cereals because they combine broad-spectrum activity, rapid knockdown and low cost per hectare. Off-patent status and registrations in many countries make them standard tools for smallholder and large-scale farming alike, especially in South and Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa. Because DV-acid chloride is a major cost input for cypermethrin, every incremental tonne of cypermethrin output translates directly into demand for the intermediate. Growing pressure to raise crop yields, expanding soybean and cotton acreage in South America, and resistance management programs that rotate pyrethroids with other modes of action all support continued demand. The Cypermethrin & Others segment is expected to grow from USD 9.564 Million in 2025 to USD 13.879 Million in 2032.
Backward Integration and Capacity Investment in India
Indian pyrethroid manufacturers have invested heavily since 2022 in integrated capacity covering both permethric acid chloride and m-phenoxybenzaldehyde. Heranba Industries' subsidiary Heranba Organics began commercial production at its Saykha (Gujarat) Phase I facility in April 2025, with about 6,000 MTPA of capacity, and the company's active ingredient capacity rose from 12,900 TPA to 26,700 TPA during FY2024-25. The environmental clearance for Gharda Chemicals' Saykha site covers cypermethrin and permethrin together with their intermediates. Meghmani Organics commissioned a multi-purpose plant at Dahej, and its disclosures cite captive CMAC and MPBD production as a way to reduce import dependence. These investments raise captive intermediate demand, improve cost competitiveness and strengthen India's position as the principal merchant source of DV-acid chloride outside China.
Stricter Technical Specifications Favoring High-Purity Grades
Regulators require pyrethroid technical materials to meet registered specifications for minimum active content, isomer ratio and relevant impurities. Producers serving the United States, the European Union, Brazil and WHO-prequalified vector control programs therefore need consistent, high-assay intermediates. Leading suppliers specify DV-acid chloride at not less than 98–99% by gas chromatography, with limits on free acid and residual thionyl chloride and a controlled cis:trans ratio. As more Indian and Chinese producers seek registrations in regulated export markets, demand is shifting toward higher grades. This underlies the 98% & Above segment's 80.0% share in 2025 and its faster projected CAGR of 6.18%.
Isomer-Enriched and Specialty Grades
Demand is rising for alpha-cypermethrin, beta-cypermethrin and permethrin with defined cis:trans ratios, driven by vector control nets, veterinary products and lower-dose agricultural formulations. These products require high-cis or high-trans DV-acid chloride, or tightly controlled isomer ratios, which command premium pricing. Producers with stereochemical process expertise, such as those already offering high-cis and high-trans CMAC grades, can move beyond commodity supply into specification-driven, higher-margin business.
Supply Diversification Following Trade Realignment
China's final anti-dumping duties on Indian cypermethrin, effective from May 2025 for five years at rates of 48.4% to 166.2%, have redirected Indian exports toward other markets. They have also encouraged global formulators to review the concentration of their sourcing. Multinational and regional formulators increasingly seek dual sourcing of pyrethroid technicals and intermediates across India and China. Producers with integrated, compliant capacity and established registrations can secure long-term supply agreements, including toll manufacturing and contract manufacturing for multinational partners.
Growth in Latin America, Africa and South Asia
Latin America (CAGR 6.94%) and Middle East & Africa (CAGR 7.13%) are the fastest-growing regions. In Brazil and Argentina, large soybean, cotton and corn areas sustain high insecticide use, and Indian pyrethroid producers have been expanding registrations there. In Sub-Saharan Africa, malaria control programs continue to procure pyrethroid-based nets, including permethrin and alpha-cypermethrin products. India itself (CAGR 6.83%) combines growing domestic agricultural demand with export manufacturing, making it a growth market for both captive and merchant supply.
Regulatory Pressure on Pyrethroids
Pyrethroids face increasing regulatory scrutiny because of their high toxicity to aquatic organisms and pollinators. In the European Union, cypermethrin was renewed under Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/2049 only as a candidate for substitution, which requires comparative assessment at product authorization. The applicant also withdrew its renewal application for cypermethrin as a wood preservative (product-type 8) under the Biocidal Products Regulation in 2025, and permethrin is not approved as a plant protection active substance in the EU. In the United States, permethrin and cypermethrin are under EPA registration review, which can add label restrictions and mitigation measures. Such measures limit pyrethroid use in regulated markets and constrain growth in North America and Europe.
Price Volatility and Overcapacity in the Pyrethroid Chain
The pyrethroid industry is prone to sharp price cycles. Chinese cypermethrin prices peaked at about RMB 105,000 per tonne in October 2021 and fell to about RMB 56,500 per tonne by May 2024 as global distributors reduced inventory and new capacity came on stream. Indian producers reported weak export demand, destocking and pricing pressure from Chinese supply in FY2024. Because DV-acid chloride is largely produced captively, these downstream price swings pass directly into intermediate realizations and utilization rates, delaying investment and squeezing margins for smaller producers.
Hazardous Chemistry and Environmental Compliance Costs
Producing permethric acid chloride involves hazardous reagents and corrosive products, including thionyl chloride, chlorinated solvents and, on some routes, diazo compounds or carbon tetrachloride. Carbon tetrachloride is controlled under the Montreal Protocol, and its feedstock use is subject to reporting requirements. Plants must manage acidic off-gases, chlorinated effluents and process safety risks, which requires substantial investment in scrubbing, effluent treatment and zero-liquid-discharge systems. Stricter enforcement in Chinese and Indian chemical clusters has led to shutdowns and delays, raising the cost of compliance and the barrier to new capacity.
Vertical Integration Across the Pyrethroid Chain
Leading producers are integrating backward from pyrethroid technicals into both acid and alcohol/aldehyde intermediates (DV-acid chloride, m-phenoxybenzaldehyde and 3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol), and forward into branded formulations. Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical in China and several Indian producers now operate largely self-sufficient chains, which reduces merchant market liquidity but improves cost control and supply security.
Insecticide Resistance and Dual-Active-Ingredient Nets
Widespread pyrethroid resistance in malaria vectors led the World Health Organization in March 2023 to recommend pyrethroid–chlorfenapyr and pyrethroid–pyriproxyfen nets. These products still contain a pyrethroid, so demand for the pyrethroid component continues, but the trend increases competition from non-pyrethroid active ingredients and may limit volume growth in vector control over the long term.
Trade Remedies Reshaping Regional Flows
The China–India anti-dumping case on cypermethrin, initiated by China's Ministry of Commerce in May 2024 on a petition from Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical, showed how important the intermediate cost position has become. According to the petition, imports from India held a 71.5% share of China's cypermethrin imports in 2023. The final duties have since shifted Indian volumes toward other destinations and supported domestic Chinese capacity utilization.
Consolidation and Portfolio Restructuring
The wider crop protection and public health industry continues to restructure. Bayer completed the sale of its Environmental Science Professional business, which included vector control, to Cinven in October 2022; the business now operates as Envu. In January 2026, Tagros Chemicals India agreed to acquire Bayer's global flubendiamide business. Such transactions change customer relationships and sourcing strategies for pyrethroid intermediates and favor scaled, diversified suppliers.
The permethric acid chloride value chain runs from basic chemical inputs through intermediate synthesis to pyrethroid technical manufacture, formulation and end use. Value addition is concentrated in the intermediate and technical stages, where process know-how, isomer control and environmental compliance determine cost and quality.
Raw Materials and Inputs
Two industrial routes are used to build the dichlorovinyl cyclopropane ring. In the diazoacetate route, 1,1-dichloro-4-methyl-1,3-pentadiene is cyclopropanated with ethyl diazoacetate over a metal catalyst to give the DV ester. In the telomer route, an ester derived from 3-methyl-2-buten-1-ol undergoes Claisen rearrangement, addition of carbon tetrachloride, and base-mediated cyclization and dehydrochlorination. The ester is hydrolyzed to DV-acid and chlorinated, typically with thionyl chloride, to give the acid chloride. Other inputs include solvents, alkalis, catalysts and utilities.
Manufacturing
Manufacture is a multi-step batch or semi-continuous process carried out mainly in India (Gujarat and Tamil Nadu chemical clusters) and China (Jiangsu, Shandong and Liaoning). Key process steps include cyclopropanation, isomer adjustment, hydrolysis, chlorination and distillation to the required assay. Most output is converted on site into permethrin, cypermethrin and related technicals, while integrated producers sell surplus volumes or specific grades on the merchant market.
Distribution and Channels
Merchant permethric acid chloride is sold directly by producers to pyrethroid technical manufacturers under annual or multi-year supply agreements, often with specified isomer ratios. Smaller volumes move through chemical traders and agents, mainly for domestic markets in India and China and for export to regional technical producers. Because the product is corrosive and moisture-sensitive, logistics require dedicated drums or ISO containers and compliance with dangerous goods regulations.
End Users
Direct users are pyrethroid technical manufacturers. Their products are then formulated into end-use products for agriculture (field crops, horticulture and stored grain), public health (mosquito control, insecticide-treated nets, indoor residual spraying and treated textiles), animal health (livestock and companion animal ectoparasiticides), household and professional pest control, and pharmaceutical products such as permethrin creams and lotions.

Meghmani Organics Limited is an Ahmedabad-based, export-led, backward-integrated specialty and agro-chemicals manufacturer controlled by the second generation of the Patel–Soparkar founding families. Its economic engine is Crop Protection (~78% of FY26 standalone revenue), where it is among India's top-10 pesticide manufacturers, spanning intermediates, technicals and 40+ branded formulations, with a pyrethroid and 2,4-D herbicide franchise sold into Brazil, the US, Africa, Latin America and Europe. Its second pillar, Pigments (~22%), positions it among the top three global phthalocyanine pigment producers with an ~8% share and the largest CPC-blue producer. Two adjacencies — liquid nano-fertilisers (Meghmani Crop Nutrition) and titanium dioxide (Kilburn Chemicals, currently suspended) — represent its diversification bets, both being folded into the parent through a pending amalgamation. About 85% of revenue is exported to 75+ countries. The investment case today is a margin-recovery and deleveraging story in a cyclical, tariff-exposed industry. --- ### Company's own description In its latest disclosures (Q4 FY26 press release, 14 May 2026; Q1 FY27 press release, 29 July 2026), the company describes itself as "a fully integrated diversified chemical company with presence in Crop Protection, Crop Nutrition and Pigments." It states that it is amongst the top three global phthalocyanine-based pigment players with an 8% market share and amongst the top-10 manufacturers of pesticides in India with a presence across the entire value chain; that it has 40+ brands of pesticide formulations in India and a 400+ customer base across diverse industries; that it has a global presence in 75+ countries with a distribution network of 3,500+ distributors and dealers across India; and that ~85% of its topline comes from export markets (FY26). ### What the company does — independent characterisation MOL is fundamentally a B2B batch-chemistry manufacturer whose competitive identity rests on three attributes: 1. **Backward integration.** In agrochemicals it produces key pyrethroid intermediates in-house — cypermethric acid chloride (CMAC), meta-phenoxy benzaldehyde (MPBD) and meta-phenoxy benzyl alcohol (MPBAL) — which CRISIL (Apr 2026) credits with reducing import dependence and conferring a cost advantage. In pigments it is backward-integrated into crude copper phthalocyanine (CPC) blue, the base for Pigment Blue 15-series and Pigment Green 7/36. 2. **Off-patent, generic-molecule exposure.** The crop-protection portfolio is predominantly mature generic molecules (synthetic pyrethroid insecticides, 2,4-D herbicide) sold as technicals to global formulators/distributors and as branded formulations domestically. Value creation therefore depends on registrations (788 product registrations in FY25 vs 693 in FY23, per company disclosures summarised by Screener), cost position and capacity utilisation, rather than proprietary IP. 3. **Export dependence.** ~85% export share (FY26) versus ~80% (FY24) makes MOL highly exposed to US tariffs, Brazilian demand cycles, Chinese pricing and global channel inventory cycles. Management has historically noted that ~45% of crop-protection demand comes from the US and Brazil (investor presentations, Nov 2023 and May 2024).
Bayer is a German life-science group with three businesses: Crop Science, Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Health. It is the world's largest combined seed, trait and crop-protection supplier, a mid-sized prescription-drug maker, and a top-five self-care company. Fiscal 2025 sales were EUR 45.6 billion. The 2018 purchase of Monsanto brought leading corn and soybean genetics but also glyphosate and PCB litigation, which has consumed well over EUR 10 billion in settlements and produced net losses in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Under CEO Bill Anderson the company has cut management layers, held the dividend at the legal minimum, and concentrated on four priorities: rebuilding the pharma pipeline, containing litigation, reducing debt and improving crop profitability. In 2026 a 7–2 U.S. Supreme Court ruling on federal pre-emption and a proposed USD 7.25 billion class settlement moved the litigation closer to resolution, though the settlement still awaits final court approval. --- **Company's own description.** Bayer describes itself as a global enterprise with core competencies in the life-science fields of health care and nutrition, operating under the mission "Health for all, Hunger for none" (Annual Report 2025; press boilerplate 2026). Bayer AG is a holding company; operations sit in subsidiaries worldwide. In fiscal 2025 the Group had about 88,000 employees, sales of EUR 45.6 billion and R&D expenses of EUR 5.8 billion. **Independent characterisation.** Bayer is best understood as three distinct businesses sharing a balance sheet, a brand and a legal liability. Crop Science (47 percent of FY2025 sales) is an input supplier to farmers. It earns money from proprietary seed and biotech traits, from chemical and biological crop protection, and to a small extent from digital farming subscriptions. Seed and trait revenue carries royalty-like economics: Bayer licenses traits to other seed companies, and two licensing settlements with Corteva lifted results in Q4 2025 and Q1 2026. The business is strongly seasonal, with Northern Hemisphere sales concentrated in the first half and Latin American sales in the second. Pharmaceuticals (39 percent of sales) discovers, develops and sells prescription medicines, concentrated in cardiovascular and renal disease, oncology, women's health and ophthalmology, plus a radiology unit selling contrast agents and injector hardware. Revenue is almost entirely product sales, with some licence income (for example U.S. Xarelto royalties from Johnson & Johnson, and Eylea outside the United States under a collaboration with Regeneron). The division is in the middle of a patent transition: Xarelto and Eylea are declining while Nubeqa and Kerendia are growing quickly. Consumer Health (13 percent of sales) sells non-prescription brands through pharmacies, mass retail and e-commerce. It is a branded consumer-goods model with stable margins and low capital intensity. **Revenue model mix.** Bayer does not disclose a product/service/licensing split. On the evidence of the Annual Report 2025, the large majority of revenue is product sales; licensing income is embedded in Crop Science seed and trait lines and in Pharmaceuticals; subscription revenue (Climate FieldView, radiology software) is immaterial at Group level. An exact percentage split is not publicly disclosed. **Value-chain position.** Bayer is a research-based originator and manufacturer. It owns discovery, development, active-ingredient and finished-product manufacturing, and commercial organisations, and sells through distributors, retailers, wholesalers, hospitals and pharmacies rather than directly to end users in most markets. **Customers and end markets.** Farmers, agricultural retailers and distributors, and seed licensees (Crop Science); wholesalers, hospitals, physicians, pharmacy chains, governments and payers (Pharmaceuticals); pharmacies, supermarkets, drugstores and online retailers (Consumer Health).
DuPont de Nemours today is a focused, roughly USD 7 bn-revenue multi-industry company. It is no longer the diversified chemical conglomerate of its heritage. After a decade of portfolio surgery, the company consists of two segments: **Healthcare & Water Technologies (about 47% of FY2025 sales):** Tyvek® medical packaging and protective garments, specialty medical device components (Spectrum, Donatelle), and the FilmTec™ / Amberlite™ water purification franchise. **Diversified Industrials (about 53%):** Building envelope products (Tyvek® house wrap, Styrofoam™, Corian®) and engineered industrial technologies (Molykote®, Vespel®, Betaseal™/Betaforce™ adhesives, Cyrel® printing plates). The company earns a premium-specialty margin profile: operating EBITDA margin was 23.8% in FY2025, with guidance of about 24.5% for FY2026. Management targets 3–4% organic growth, 150–200 bps of margin expansion and 8–10% adjusted EPS CAGR through 2028, supported by a lightly levered BBB+/Baa1 balance sheet. The principal overhang is legacy PFAS liability, shared with Chemours, Corteva and Qnity under contractual arrangements. The principal opportunity is a cleaner, higher-growth healthcare/water mix and capital redeployment. --- **Company's own description (FY2025 10-K, Item 1).** DuPont describes itself as a leading provider of advanced solutions that improve everyday life across healthcare, water, construction and industrial markets. It emphasizes helping customers advance their technology pipelines, from clean water to medical packaging that enhances safety and performance. It names its competitive strengths as: - proprietary product and process technologies; - robust application-development pipelines; - well-known brands; - customer intimacy; - global manufacturing and local service capability. **Independent characterization.** DuPont is now best understood as a specialty engineered-materials and components company with four businesses of roughly comparable scale: **Business model and revenue model.** - Revenue is overwhelmingly product sales: materials, components, membranes, resins, garments and plates. Some engineered systems and modules are sold in Water. - There is no material subscription or licensing revenue. Trade secrets may be licensed occasionally (10-K, Intellectual Property). - The contract manufacturing and design services of Spectrum and Donatelle (medical devices) add a design-in / build-to-print services element, but are recognized as product revenue. - Seasonality: North American Building Technologies demand peaks in Q2–Q3. **Value-chain position.** DuPont sits mid-stream as a Tier-1/Tier-2 supplier. It converts purchased raw materials (polyolefins, specialty monomers, resins, silicones, polymers) into engineered materials, membranes and components. These are specified into customers' finished products: medical devices, sterile packaging, water plants, building envelopes, aircraft, vehicles and print packaging. **Customer types.** - Medical device OEMs and sterile packaging converters - Biopharma manufacturers - Industrial end users and EPC/OEM water-system integrators - Municipalities and desalination operators (via integrators) - Builders, contractors and distributors (e.g., Corian® distribution through Hallmark and Parksite) - Automotive and EV OEMs and Tier-1s - Aerospace OEMs - Printing and packaging converters Most products are sold through DuPont's own sales organization, with distributors used for some lines (10-K, Distribution). **End markets.** Healthcare (medical devices, packaging, biopharma, PPE), water (industrial, municipal/desalination, life sciences, microelectronics UPW), construction (residential, non-residential, repair/remodel) and industrial (aerospace, automotive/EV, printing and packaging, general industrial).
