Competitive Landscape Summary
The polyarylsulfone market is highly consolidated at the resin-production level. Syensqo (the specialty business separated from Solvay in December 2023), BASF and Sumitomo Chemical have long dominated global supply through integrated sulfone monomer and polymer capacity, broad PSU/PESU/PPSU portfolios and extensive regulatory documentation for medical, food-contact and drinking-water uses. Chinese producers, led by Guangdong Youju Advanced New Materials and Kingfa Sci. & Tech., have expanded polysulfone and PPSU capacity since 2022 and compete increasingly on price in domestic and wider Asian markets. Downstream, compounders and stock-shape manufacturers add specialized glass-filled, colored and semi-finished products. Competition centers on regulatory approvals, application development support, supply security and BPA-free or sustainability-oriented grades rather than on price alone.
Challenges and Opportunities
The principal challenges are high resin cost relative to polycarbonate and other engineering plastics, dependence on a narrow base of monomer producers, tightening regulation of bisphenols in food-contact materials and of solvents used in polymerization, and competition from polyetherimide (PEI), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and polyether ether ketone (PEEK) in demanding applications. Opportunities lie in hemodialysis and bioprocessing membranes, ultrafiltration for municipal and industrial water reuse, BPA-free PPSU and PESU grades for infant-feeding and food-service products, lightweight aircraft interiors, thermal-management and battery components in electric vehicles, and high-frequency electronics.
Future Outlook
Between 2025 and 2032 the market is expected to grow from USD 503.36 Million to USD 766.98 Million. Asia Pacific will add USD 129.02 Million, the largest absolute gain of any region, driven by China and India. Medical & Healthcare will remain the anchor end-use industry, while glass-filled grades and extrusion-based processes will gradually gain share. Suppliers that combine reliable regional supply, regulatory-compliant grade portfolios and close collaboration with device, membrane and component manufacturers are best positioned to capture forecast growth.
The Polyarylsulfone Market market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.9% from 2022 to 2032.

Polyarylsulfones (PAS), also referred to as polyarylethersulfones (PAES), are a family of amorphous, high-performance thermoplastic polymers whose backbones consist of aromatic (aryl) rings linked by sulfone (–SO2–) and ether (–O–) groups. They are typically produced by nucleophilic aromatic substitution polycondensation of 4,4′-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone (DCDPS) with a bisphenol in a polar aprotic solvent in the presence of an alkali carbonate. The choice of bisphenol defines the three commercial members of the family:
Polysulfone (PSU): based on bisphenol A; glass transition temperature of approximately 185 °C; transparent, tough and hydrolytically stable; widely used for membranes, medical components, food-service and plumbing parts.
Polyethersulfone (PESU or PES): based on 4,4′-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone (bisphenol S); glass transition temperature of approximately 220–225 °C; higher heat and chemical resistance and inherent flame retardance; used in membranes, electrical components, aerospace and automotive parts.
Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU): based on 4,4′-biphenol; glass transition temperature of approximately 220 °C; the highest impact strength and resistance to repeated steam sterilization in the family; used in reusable medical devices, sterilization trays, plumbing fittings, infant-feeding bottles and aircraft interiors.
Included in the scope: neat (unfilled) and glass-filled polyarylsulfone resins and compounds sold for conversion by injection molding, extrusion, solution processing (including membrane spinning and casting), film and sheet production and additive manufacturing, across medical and healthcare, electrical and electronics, automotive and aerospace, and water and food processing applications. Market value is measured at the resin and compound level.
Excluded from the scope: other sulfur-containing polymers such as polyphenylene sulfide (PPS); polyaryletherketones (PEEK, PEKK); polyetherimide (PEI); finished components, membranes and modules valued at the converted-product level; and the sulfone monomers (such as DCDPS and bisphenol S) when sold as chemical intermediates.

On the demand side, respondents included procurement, materials engineering and R&D personnel at medical device and sterilization equipment manufacturers, membrane and filtration module producers, plumbing and food-equipment manufacturers, electrical and electronics component makers, and automotive and aerospace tier suppliers.
The objectives of primary research were to validate market size and segment shares; understand grade selection criteria and substitution dynamics among PSU, PESU, PPSU and competing high-performance polymers; assess pricing trends, capacity developments and supply risks; gauge the impact of regulatory changes; and test growth assumptions for each region and end-use industry.
Market Size Estimation
Top-down approach: The global market was estimated from the installed and announced polyarylsulfone production capacity of producers, adjusted for utilization rates, inventory changes and trade flows, and converted to value using grade-weighted average selling prices. The global value was then allocated to regions, countries and segments using shares derived from secondary research and validated through interviews.
Bottom-up approach: Consumption was built up from end-use applications, such as dialyzer and ultrafiltration membrane output, sterilization tray and reusable surgical instrument production, plumbing fitting volumes, aircraft interior component builds, and connector and coil-bobbin output, multiplied by polyarylsulfone content per unit and average prices by grade. Country estimates were aggregated to regional and global totals.
Data triangulation: Results from the two approaches were compared and reconciled. Where differences arose, the estimates were reviewed against trade data, company disclosures and primary inputs until convergence was reached. Segment, regional and country estimates were constrained to sum to the reconciled totals.
Forecasting Methodology
Forecasts for 2026–2032 were developed for each country and segment combination and aggregated to regional and global levels. The following factors were considered:
Macroeconomic indicators: GDP growth, industrial production, healthcare expenditure, construction and infrastructure investment.
End-use indicators: dialysis patient population and dialyzer output, water-treatment capacity additions, aircraft deliveries, light-vehicle and electric-vehicle production, and electronics output.
Supply-side factors: capacity additions and debottlenecking, monomer availability and raw material cost trends.
Regulatory developments affecting bisphenols, food-contact materials, drinking-water components, medical devices and process solvents.
Substitution and technology trends, including competition from other high-performance polymers and adoption of new processing routes such as additive manufacturing.
Growth rates were modeled by applying segment-specific adoption and penetration assumptions to end-use demand indicators, validated through primary interviews and stress-tested under alternative assumptions for prices and end-use demand.

Competitor Dashboard
The dashboard below rates each profiled company on four qualitative dimensions: product portfolio breadth in polyarylsulfones, regional presence, strategic alliances (distribution, licensing, customer and technology partnerships) and industry experience in sulfone polymers.
Threat of New Entrants: Low
Polymerization and purification technology, monomer access and process know-how are protected by experience and patents, and require significant capital investment.
Qualification cycles for medical, food-contact, drinking-water and aerospace grades take several years, creating customer lock-in for incumbent suppliers.
New Chinese entrants have emerged since 2022, but they mainly compete in general-purpose grades and domestic markets.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Medium
Key monomers such as DCDPS and biphenol are produced by few suppliers, giving them pricing leverage over non-integrated polymer producers.
Leading resin producers are backward-integrated into sulfone monomers, which reduces supplier power for them.
Solvents, carbonates and glass fibers are widely available commodities with low supplier power.
Bargaining Power of Buyers: Medium
Large membrane, medical device and aerospace customers purchase significant volumes and negotiate long-term contracts.
High switching costs from requalification limit buyers' ability to change suppliers once a grade is specified.
Fragmented small converters purchasing through distributors have little individual bargaining power.
Threat of Substitutes: Medium
PEI, PPS, PEEK, high-heat polycarbonate and polyamides can substitute in specific applications depending on the required balance of cost and performance.
In membranes, PVDF, polyacrylonitrile and cellulose derivatives compete, though polysulfone-family membranes dominate hemodialysis.
Metals and glass remain substitutes in instruments and fittings, but the trend favors polymer replacement of metals rather than the reverse.
Intensity of Competitive Rivalry: Medium
The market is consolidated among a few global producers that compete on technical service, regulatory support and supply reliability rather than price alone.
Asian capacity additions are increasing price competition in standard grades.
Continued market growth reduces the incentive for aggressive price competition among incumbents.
Threat of New Entrants: Low; Technology, capital intensity and long qualification cycles.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Medium; Concentrated monomer supply offset by producer integration.
Bargaining Power of Buyers: Medium; Large buyers negotiate, but switching costs are high.
Threat of Substitutes: Medium; PEI, PPS, PEEK and PC in selected applications.
Intensity of Competitive Rivalry: Medium; Consolidated market with rising Asian competition.

Analytical insights on Polyarylsulfone Market covering market dynamics, competitive landscape, and strategic outlook.
The Polyarylsulfone Market market is projected to reach $766.98M by 2032, growing at 6.9% CAGR. The Unfilled segment holds the largest share.
The global polyarylsulfone market is shaped by a combination of macroeconomic forces, such as healthcare spending, infrastructure investment and industrial output, and market-specific factors, such as sterilization requirements, membrane technology, regulatory treatment of bisphenols and the competitive position of alternative high-performance polymers. The market expanded from USD 394.45 Million in 2022 to USD 503.36 Million in 2025 and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 6.08% during 2026–2032. This chapter evaluates the factors promoting and inhibiting growth and their expected impact across the forecast horizon.
Market Growth Factor Analysis
The table below summarizes five macro and five micro factors influencing the market. Each factor is classified by impact type (promoting, inhibiting or steady) and assigned an impact score out of 10 for three sub-periods of the forecast. The impact scores are analyst assessments based on secondary research and industry interviews, where a higher score denotes a stronger influence on market growth in the direction indicated.
Rising Demand for Sterilizable, Reusable Medical Devices
Healthcare is the largest end-use industry for polyarylsulfones, valued at USD 151.01 Million in 2025. Hospitals and surgical centers rely on reusable instruments, sterilization cases and trays, and device housings that must withstand hundreds to thousands of cycles of steam autoclaving, hydrogen peroxide plasma and aggressive hospital disinfectants without cracking, discoloration or loss of dimensional accuracy. PPSU is the material of choice for many of these components because it combines high impact strength with outstanding hydrolytic stability, and suppliers report that PPSU parts tolerate more than 1,000 steam sterilization cycles. Regulatory and hospital pressure to reduce healthcare-associated infections has intensified reprocessing protocols, raising the performance bar for materials. At the same time, ageing populations, rising surgical volumes and hospital construction in China, India, Southeast Asia and the Gulf states expand the installed base of instruments and equipment. Device manufacturers also favor PPSU and PSU as replacements for stainless steel and aluminum in instrument handles and trays to reduce weight and enable color-coding. These factors make medical demand both resilient and the fastest-growing end-use segment globally, with a CAGR of 6.79% over 2026–2032.
Expansion of Membrane Filtration in Dialysis and Water Treatment
PSU and PESU are the dominant polymers for hollow-fiber and flat-sheet membranes used in hemodialysis, hemodiafiltration, bioprocessing and ultrafiltration of drinking water and wastewater. Their chemical resistance, thermal stability and tunable pore structure, achieved through solution spinning or casting, make them preferred over cellulose-based membranes. The global prevalence of chronic kidney disease continues to rise with diabetes, hypertension and ageing, sustaining growth in dialyzer output in which polysulfone-family membranes are the standard. In water, municipalities and industries are adopting ultrafiltration for drinking water, desalination pre-treatment and water reuse. Public investment programs support this shift, including the water infrastructure funding under the U.S. Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the recast EU Drinking Water Directive (EU) 2020/2184 and the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (EU) 2024/3019, as well as large-scale water programs in China, India and the Middle East. Because membrane production is classified within extrusion and solution processing, this driver underpins the faster growth of the Extrusion & Others segment, which expands at a CAGR of 6.52%.
Electrification and Miniaturization in Electronics and Mobility
Electrical & Electronics accounted for USD 125.84 Million of polyarylsulfone demand in 2025 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.66%. PESU and glass-filled PSU offer inherent flame retardance without halogenated additives, high comparative tracking performance, low dielectric loss and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures, making them suitable for connectors, coil bobbins, sockets, sensor housings and components exposed to lead-free soldering. The growth of 5G infrastructure, data centers and AI servers increases demand for heat-resistant, dimensionally stable materials for high-density interconnects and cooling-system components. In mobility, the International Energy Agency reported that global electric car sales exceeded 17 million units in 2024, and electric vehicles require thermally stable, electrically insulating parts in battery systems, power electronics and thermal-management circuits, where polyarylsulfones compete on resistance to coolants and hot water.
Metal Replacement and Fire Safety in Aerospace and Plumbing
Aircraft cabin interiors must comply with stringent flammability, heat-release, smoke-density and toxicity requirements, including the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration standard 14 CFR 25.853 and its European equivalent CS-25. PPSU and PESU grades meet these requirements without halogenated flame retardants and are used in seating components, galley equipment, overhead stowage parts, air-ducting and trolley parts, where they replace aluminum and reduce weight. Multi-year order backlogs at major airframe manufacturers and recovery in aircraft delivery rates support stable growth. In building and construction, PPSU fittings and manifolds have replaced brass in hot- and cold-water plumbing and radiant-heating systems because they resist hot chlorinated water, eliminate dezincification and lead-leaching concerns, and lower installed cost. Drinking-water material approvals such as NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 in North America and national certification schemes in Europe reinforce the position of certified polyarylsulfone grades in these applications.
Bioprocessing, Water Reuse and Advanced Membranes
The growth of biologics, cell and gene therapies and vaccine production is increasing demand for single-use filtration and tangential-flow filtration membranes, for which PESU is a leading material because of its low protein binding and chemical robustness. In water, the adoption of ultrafiltration and membrane bioreactors for municipal reuse and industrial zero-liquid-discharge systems, particularly in water-stressed regions of the Middle East, India and China, offers a sustained volume opportunity. The universal restriction on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) proposed under REACH in 2023, and updated by ECHA in August 2025, may also encourage substitution of fluoropolymers such as PVDF in membranes and cable insulation by non-fluorinated polymers such as PESU and PPSU.
BPA-Free Grades for Food Contact and Infant Care
Regulatory restrictions on bisphenols create an opportunity for PPSU, which is based on 4,4′-biphenol and is not affected by Regulation (EU) 2024/3190. Infant-feeding bottles, food-service trays, dairy and beverage processing equipment and coffee-machine components currently made from PSU, PESU or other bisphenol-based polymers must be requalified in the European Union, and producers are responding: Syensqo introduced a BPA-free White Radel PPSU grade in 2025, and BASF launched six BPA- and BPS-free Ultrason P grades in March 2026 aimed at food-contact requalification. Suppliers that offer certified grades with full migration-testing documentation can win share as brand owners reformulate products ahead of transition deadlines.
Hydrogen Electrolysis, Electric Vehicles and Advanced Electronics
Green hydrogen production is an emerging application: polyarylsulfones are used for electrolyzer stack frames, gaskets and porous separator membranes in alkaline, PEM and anion-exchange membrane electrolyzers, and both Syensqo and BASF have targeted this segment, with BASF announcing an Ultrason portfolio for electrolyzer components in October 2024. Battery thermal-management components, coolant-pump housings, sensor bodies and high-voltage connectors in electric vehicles require materials that combine heat resistance, hydrolysis resistance and electrical insulation, a profile that suits glass-filled PSU and PESU. Additive manufacturing using PPSU and PESU filaments and powders is enabling low-volume aerospace, tooling and medical parts. In electronics, low-dielectric-loss materials for antenna and high-frequency applications, and heat-resistant components for data-center cooling, provide additional growth avenues.
High Material Cost and Substitution Pressure
Polyarylsulfones are priced at a multiple of polycarbonate and conventional engineering plastics because of the cost of sulfone monomers, specialty bisphenols, high-boiling solvents and energy-intensive polymerization and purification. In cost-sensitive applications, designers often select high-heat polycarbonate, polyamide or PPS where their performance is adequate, while at the high end PEI and PEEK compete in aerospace, electronics and medical uses. This price-performance squeeze limits penetration in mid-performance applications and makes demand sensitive to raw material cost spikes, which suppliers cannot always pass through quickly in long-term supply agreements.
Regulatory Pressure on Bisphenols and Process Chemicals
PSU is synthesized from bisphenol A, and PESU from bisphenol S. Following the European Food Safety Authority's 2023 re-evaluation, which sharply reduced the tolerable daily intake for BPA, the European Commission adopted Regulation (EU) 2024/3190 in December 2024. The regulation prohibits the use of BPA in food-contact materials and removes bisphenol S, the PESU monomer, from the Union list of authorized substances, affecting both PSU and PESU food-contact articles; repeat-use articles may be placed on the market only until July 2026, or January 2028 for professional food-production equipment. A specific derogation allows BPA to be used in the manufacture of polysulfone filtration membrane assemblies under strict migration conditions. Such measures increase compliance costs, require requalification of food-service, housewares and infant-care products, and shift demand toward biphenol-based PPSU. In addition, solvents used in polymerization, such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), are subject to occupational-exposure restrictions under REACH, adding to production and membrane-manufacturing costs.
Concentrated Supply Base and Feedstock Dependence
Global polyarylsulfone production is concentrated among a small number of producers, and key monomers such as DCDPS and 4,4′-biphenol are produced at few sites worldwide. Outages, force majeure events or logistics disruptions can tighten supply rapidly, as experienced during the pandemic-era supply chain disruptions. Downstream users in regulated industries cannot easily switch suppliers because requalification of medical, food-contact or aerospace grades is costly and time-consuming, which can delay new projects and encourage design-out in favor of more widely available materials.
Capacity Expansion in Asia Pacific
Asia Pacific is the largest and one of the fastest-growing regional markets, valued at USD 191.28 Million in 2025 with a CAGR of 7.45%. Domestic Chinese producers such as Guangdong Youju Advanced New Materials and Kingfa Sci. & Tech. have added polysulfone and PPSU capacity since 2022, increasing local availability, shortening lead times and intensifying price competition. Multinational producers are responding with regional technical centers, localized compounding and targeted investments to secure supply to Asian membrane, electronics and medical device manufacturers.
Sustainability and Circularity
Brand owners in medical, food-service and electronics markets increasingly request lower product carbon footprints, renewable or mass-balanced feedstocks and documented end-of-life options. Producers are responding with certified mass-balance and recycling approaches: Solvay (now Syensqo) launched ISCC PLUS-certified Udel PSU and Radel PPSU ReCycle MB grades in 2023 and unveiled a chemical recycling process that depolymerizes sulfone polymer scrap back to monomers in 2025, while BASF introduced a 20% bio-attributed, ISCC PLUS-certified Ultrason P grade produced in Ludwigshafen in 2026. Reusable PPSU products also benefit from life-cycle comparisons with single-use alternatives in hospitals and food service.
Regulatory Complexity
Suppliers must maintain extensive documentation for medical-device biocompatibility (ISO 10993 and USP Class VI testing), food-contact and drinking-water compliance in multiple jurisdictions, and chemical registration under REACH, TSCA and Asian chemical inventories. The implementation of the EU Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745 has lengthened approval timelines and increased the importance of long-term supply commitments and change-notification policies for medical-grade resins.
Supply Security and Regionalization
Following recent supply disruptions and geopolitical uncertainty, customers are seeking dual sourcing, regional inventory and supplier commitments to long-term continuity. This trend favors producers with multi-regional production, compounding and distribution networks, while also creating openings for regional producers that can qualify in local supply chains.
The polyarylsulfone value chain extends from basic petrochemicals and sulfur chemistry through monomer synthesis, polymerization and compounding to conversion and end use. Value is concentrated in monomer and polymer production, where technology, scale and regulatory documentation create high entry barriers, and in application development with device, membrane and component manufacturers.
Raw Materials and Inputs
The key monomers are 4,4′-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone (DCDPS), produced from chlorobenzene and sulfur-based reagents, and bisphenols: bisphenol A for PSU, 4,4′-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone (bisphenol S) for PESU, and 4,4′-biphenol for PPSU. Polymerization also requires polar aprotic solvents (such as sulfolane, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone or dimethylacetamide), potassium carbonate, and, for compounds, glass fibers, stabilizers and colorants. A limited number of producers supply DCDPS and biphenol globally, making monomer access a strategic advantage for integrated polymer producers.
Manufacturing
Resin producers carry out high-temperature solution polycondensation, followed by polymer recovery, washing to remove salts and residual solvent, devolatilization and pelletizing. Quality control focuses on molecular weight, color, residual monomers and purity, which are critical for medical, membrane and food-contact grades. Compounders and resin producers then produce glass-filled, colored and specialty grades, while some producers supply powders and solutions for membrane manufacturing. Production is concentrated in the United States, Europe, Japan, India and China.
Distribution and Channels
Large accounts, including membrane producers, medical device original equipment manufacturers and tier-one aerospace and automotive suppliers, typically purchase directly from producers under multi-year agreements with change-notification commitments. Small and medium converters are served by specialized engineering-plastics distributors, which provide small lot sizes, local inventory and technical service. Stock-shape manufacturers convert resin into rods, plates and tubes for machining, adding a semi-finished channel for prototyping and low-volume parts.
End Users
Converters process polyarylsulfones by injection molding, extrusion, solution spinning and casting, thermoforming and additive manufacturing into finished components. End users include medical device and sterilization equipment manufacturers, dialyzer and filtration module producers, plumbing and food-equipment makers, electrical and electronics component manufacturers, and automotive and aerospace suppliers. End users drive material specifications and qualification, and their long product life cycles create sticky demand once a grade is approved.

BASF is the world's largest chemical company by sales, built on the Verbund principle of physically and energetically integrated production sites that turn a handful of feedstocks into thousands of products. Since September 2024 it has run under the "Winning Ways" strategy, which splits the portfolio into four core segments (Chemicals, Materials, Industrial Solutions, Nutrition & Care) that stay integrated, and standalone businesses (Agricultural Solutions, Battery Materials, Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions, and the now-divested Coatings) that are being monetized or prepared for capital-market options. In 2025 it generated €59.7 billion in sales and €6.6 billion in EBITDA before special items, a cyclical trough. In 2026 it closed the €7.7 billion Coatings transaction, started up its €-multi-billion Zhanjiang Verbund site, raised earnings guidance, and approached Evonik about a takeover. The investment debate is whether structural cost cuts and portfolio proceeds can restore returns above the cost of capital. --- **The company's own description.** BASF describes its purpose with the line "we create chemistry for a sustainable future" (BASF news release boilerplate, 2026) and states its ambition to be the preferred chemical company for enabling customers' green transformation. It reports around 108,000 employees, customers in nearly every sector and almost every country, and sales of around €60 billion in 2025. The portfolio is described as four core segments plus standalone businesses bundled in Surface Technologies and Agricultural Solutions. **Independent characterization.** BASF is best understood as three businesses under one roof: 1. **An integrated commodity and intermediates engine** (Chemicals, the Monomers half of Materials). This is a steam-cracker-to-derivatives chain selling ethylene and propylene derivatives, isocyanates, polyamide precursors and intermediates on spread economics. Earnings are driven by feedstock and energy costs, operating rates and regional supply-demand. It is the most capital-intensive part of the group and the main source of the 2023–2025 earnings decline: Chemicals EBITDA before special items fell from €1,342 million in 2024 to €853 million in 2025 (Factsheet FY2025). 2. **Formulated and performance products** (Performance Materials, Industrial Solutions, Nutrition & Care). These sell on specification and performance to automotive, construction, packaging, consumer goods, pharma and nutrition customers. Margins are steadier but have come under pressure from Asian competition and, in Care Chemicals, from consumer trading-down to private-label products (Factsheet FY2025 commentary). 3. **Standalone franchises** with different industry logic: Agricultural Solutions (crop protection, seeds and traits, digital farming), ECMS (emissions catalysts plus precious-metal trading and recycling) and Battery Materials. Agricultural Solutions is the group's highest-margin segment at 21.7% EBITDA margin before special items in FY2025 and the largest single earnings contributor at €2,081 million. **Revenue model.** Revenue is almost entirely product sales under supply contracts and spot transactions. There is no subscription model of consequence; digital farming (xarvio) and licensing of process technology and catalysts are small. Seeds and traits include royalty and licensing income within Agricultural Solutions, not separately disclosed. Precious-metal trading inflates ECMS sales (€7,978 million in FY2025) with pass-through metal value, which is why BASF quotes group margins both including and excluding metals (12.3% excluding metals in FY2025 per the CFO on the February 27, 2026 call, versus 11.0% reported). **Value chain position.** Upstream to midstream in petrochemicals with captive crackers at Ludwigshafen, Antwerp, Port Arthur (joint venture with TotalEnergies), Nanjing (joint venture with Sinopec) and Zhanjiang; midstream to downstream in engineering plastics, polyurethane systems, dispersions, additives, surfactants and vitamins; branded and channel-driven in agriculture. BASF exited upstream oil and gas operations when Wintershall Dea's E&P business was transferred to Harbour Energy in September 2024. **Customers and end-markets.** BASF serves industrial customers in chemicals and plastics, transportation, construction, consumer goods, agriculture, electronics, energy and resources, and health and nutrition. Intersegment transfers are large (Chemicals transferred €3,432 million internally in FY2025 on €10,055 million of third-party sales), which shows how much of the upstream output feeds BASF's own downstream chains.
