Global Tattoo Removal Market consists of various large scale and small scale market players involved in the medical aesthetics business. The companies mainly include the manufacturers of the equipment such as Laser systems, and some of the manufacturers of the topical aesthetic products such as tattoo removal creams and ointments. The major revenue in the market is generated by the Laser centers and cosmetic surgeons working at the dermatology clinics.
Company Share Analysis
The tattoo removal market is not a product based market. In fact it is a service based market. The market is not majorly affected by selling of the devices but because of the services that are provided by the service providers. In tattoo removal market, Laser Centers and other cosmetic labs buy Laser devices from the manufacturers. It is a onetime investment for these centers as the Laser devices last long enough and are used for continuous and multiple treatments. Many of the devices come with a 5 year warranty. Hence the equipment that are required per center is less. Even in the surgical procedure, there is no requirement of any major product, the surgeons carry out the procedure.
These Laser centers and dermatological clinics offer the services of tattoo removal and they charge the patients per treatment session. Also, the surgeons charge the patients on the basis of surgical procedure. Hence, the revenue is generated by the Laser centers and the clinics by offering the tattoo removal services.
Having said that, there are some companies which manufacture the Laser devices that are used for the tattoo removal. These include Astanza, Cutera Inc, Cynosure, Lutronic, Dimyth Beauty Equipment Manufacturer, Syneron Candela. Some of the other players include Bison Medical Co. Ltd, DEKA Medical Inc, Fotona d.o.o, Quanta System S.p.A, and Wontech among others. Out of the above Astanza, Cutera Inc, Cynosure, and Syneron are the major players manufacturing the Lasers for tattoo removal.
Apart from these there are some topical creams available in the market for removal of tattoos. These include Wrecking Balm, Profade, Tattoo off, Dermasal, and Fade Away among others. These creams can be bought over the counter and also on e-commerce websites.
Bargaining power of suppliers
The suppliers in the global tattoo removal industry are the manufacturers of Laser devices, and majorly the service provider of the tattoo removal. Currently there are moderate number of suppliers in the market due to the technology involved in the tattoo removal, and government regulations on the tattoo removal Laser procedures for the safety of the patients from the exposure to untested radiation. However there are only limited number of treatment methods available for the tattoo removal, Laser therapy being the most popular among them. This leads to the higher control of the service providers on the costs of the procedures. As service providers can control the cost of the treatments. It gives them higher power over the buyers over the patients.
Bargaining Power of Buyers
The bargaining power of buyers is low in the global tattoo removal market, this is because of the less number of service providers in the industry and their higher control over the prices and costs of the tattoo removal procedure. As far as choices are concerned there are very few for the patients to get the treatment done. Other treatments such as surgical method which has other risks and topical creams does not yield the desired results. Due to the limited choices, the bargaining power of the buyers or patients in this market has decreased. Moreover, Patients have to adhere to the terms of the service providers by paying what they ask in order to get the treatment done with effective results further decreases the bargaining power of the buyers.
Threat of New Entrants
Threat of new entrants is moderate to high in the global tattoo removal market due to developing potential market. Any manufacturing company trying to enter the market is required to accept the mandatory regulatory standards as per the current reclassification of device manufacturing by FDA. Moreover the technological advancements in the industry and the rising craze about the tattoo making are more likely to attract new companies to enter the business. The initial cost in the tattoo removal market is relatively less and it is affordable for the person interested in starting up a business on tattoo removal. However, the government regulations and the Licensing issues may hamper the entry of the new service provider into this market.
Threat of Substitutes
Threat of substitutes in the global tattoo removal market is low. As the tattoo removal industry is majorly a service based industry with number of service providers operating in different places and countries. People are more likely to go to the tattoo removal centers close by to their residence irrespective of the company to which it is associated. People look for the convenience more than the branding in this particular industry as all the service providers offer more or less the similar products and services.
Intensity of Rivalry
The degree of competition in the global tattoo removal market is considered to be low. Less differentiation among existing players and peoples approach towards looking at the service providers is decreasing the intensity of rivalry in the market. However, Players may try to grow their business by increasing their geographic reach by collaborating with the local dermatological clinics and cosmetic labs. Development in the technology of Lasers may heat up the rivalry in the market in the future. But At present, the rivalry among the market players is medium to low.

Many of these tattoos are made due to immaturity. With changing trends, the market for tattoo removal has grown. Employment policies in the current professional world regarding tattoos, Military recruitment policies, errors caused by the tattoo ink in digital body sensing devices, and poor artwork and bad quality tattoos are some of the major factors driving the growth of the tattoo removal market. On the other hand, excessive cost of the laser therapy, extended and time consuming sessions of the Laser tattoo removal, and scarring of skin due to surgical tattoo removal are some factors which can hinder the growth of the market.

However, it is observed that, none of the topical cream is effective for the removal of the tattoos. Creams and ointments does not enter the skin and interact with the ink.
There is a great opportunity for the development of the injectable drugs or solutions which can enter the skin, react with the tattoo ink and break it down. The tattoo removal procedure is expensive that the procedure of tattoo making. Among the several types of tattoo removal treatments available in the market, the most effective and most commonly used tattoo removal method is Laser Therapy. However, the Laser therapy is time consuming and it takes multiple sessions to remove the tattoo based on the size and the colour of the tattoo. Moreover, if the tattoo is small and in monochrome, the cost of removal is less, however if the tattoo is large or has multi colours, the cost of removal is very high As number of people getting inked is higher in the age group 18-22, there is a big affordability concern. Many people regret getting a tattoo and want to get rid of it, but due to the high cost, they look for alternate tattoo removal treatments or simply cannot get it done.
Near-term growth will likely concentrate in modular bioreactor lines and closed-system media workflows that shorten validation cycles while preserving batch traceability.
