Michael Porter’s Five Forces model is a framework to study the global off the road tire market. Strategic business managers, trying to gain an edge over competing firms in the global off the road tire market, can utilize this model to better comprehend the industry in which the company operates. The components of each of the forces and the degree of impact of each force in the context of the global off the road tire market have been broken down and analyzed. Threat of New Entrants
The global off the road tire market is capital intensive, and the level of technical expertise required for product development and manufacturing is high. The presence of well-known tire companies, such as Michelin, Bridgestone Corporation, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and Continental AG, with their strong brand image, make it difficult for the new entrants to create a brand value and achieve economies of scale. Moreover, established tire manufacturers have vast distribution networks and geographic reach, which gives them a competitive advantage over others. Furthermore, the established market players are venturing into new regions through strategic partnerships and joint ventures with local suppliers to increase their market share, reducing the potential profit margins for new entrants. Thus, the threat of new entrants in the global off the road tire market is expected to be low during the forecast period. Bargaining Power of Suppliers
Off-road tire manufacturers procure both raw materials and additives from suppliers. The raw materials required for manufacturing off-road tires include natural/synthetic rubber, silica, fabric, and steel, while the additives include fillers and chemicals. There are several natural/synthetic rubber, fabric, and steel suppliers operating in the global market. However, the availability of suppliers is limited for other essential materials, such as silica, carbon black, fillers, chemicals, and other reinforcing materials. Established tire manufacturers procure these raw materials in high quantities, which reduces the bargaining power of suppliers to a certain extent. However, off the road tire manufacturing companies cannot easily switch suppliers due to the risks involved in the timely delivery of the required quantity and quality of materials and additives from new suppliers. Hence, these manufacturers tend to have long term contracts with their suppliers. Thus, the bargaining power of suppliers in the global off the road tire market is expected to be moderate during the forecast period. Bargaining Power of Buyers
Off the road tire buyers are automotive OEMs and aftermarket buyers. The concentration of buyers is moderate, as the product is primarily used in off-highway applications. The buyers prefer purchasing from existing tire providers due to the potential risks associated with the product quality and replacement services of new off the road tire manufacturers, making the impact of brand identity moderate. However, the switching costs for the buyers is low.
Many automotive OEMs generally tend to have strategic contracts with off-road tire manufacturing companies to develop tires specific to vehicle requirements, which enables them to purchase the product in large quantities and gain high bargaining power. On the other hand, the aftermarket buyers purchase off-road tires in small numbers and have low bargaining power. Thus, the overall bargaining power of buyers in the global off the road tire market is expected to be moderate during the study period. Threat of Substitutes
Off the road tires have no direct substitutes that match their specifications and features. However, conventional tires are the only alternative to off-road tires, especially in developing countries and regions. The limited awareness regarding the advantages of off-road tires and limited government initiatives to increase the adoption of such products are some of the factors restricting the adoption of off the road tires over conventional tires. Hence, the threat of substitutes is expected to be low in the global off the road tire market during the forecast period. Intensity of Rivalry
The intensity of rivalry in the global off the road tires market is high as the tire manufacturing companies are developing the multiple new material combinations and designs to improve the operational efficiency of the product. Moreover, market players are strategically investing in research & development for offering advanced products. The global market is dominated by a few top players, such as Michelin, Bridgestone Corporation, The Yokohama Rubber Company, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., and Continental AG. These players continuously compete to increase their respective market shares, while the rest have an intense rivalry, owing to their presence in the unorganized aftermarket.
The low threat of new entrants, moderate bargaining power of buyers, low threat of substitutes, and moderate bargaining power of suppliers are the factors contributing to the high intensity of rivalry in the global off the road tires market during the forecast period.

Analytical insights on Off the Road Tire Market covering market dynamics, competitive landscape, and strategic outlook.
The Off the Road Tire Market market is projected to reach $27.38B by 2025, growing at 4.9% CAGR. The Agricultural Vehicle segment holds the largest share.
The global market for off the road tires will witness significant growth owing to the proliferating construction activities along with farm mechanization across the globe. However, the growth of the market may be hindered by the increasing raw material prices pertaining to off-road tires.
The construction sector is progressively inclined toward the usage of efficient and improved technologies resulting in high productivity. Multiple technologies, including artificial intelligence supporting visualization of pre-construction projects, are significantly enhancing the construction activities across the globe. The adoption of construction management software and the high use of modular and prefabricated products are also accentuating the construction industry across the globe.
Increasing usage of off-road tires in the vehicles required in construction projects across the globe will positively influence the global market share over the projected timeframe. The off-road tires installed in heavy and earth moving equipment, including backhoe loaders, scrapers, dump trucks, and motor graders, aids in increased traction and reliability in extreme operating environments that will accentuate the industry share. The rising consumer inclination from conventional tires toward off-road tires for construction activities to improve their operating efficiency will, in turn, propel the off the road tire volume share across the globe.
The above figure showcases the annual spending in the US from the private and public sectors in the construction industry. The high investment by both the sectors is considerably expanding the construction sector that will, in turn, enhance the off the road tires market growth. The construction industry has bloomed with large construction projects requiring vehicles installed with off-road tires in specific geographic locations. For instance, in December 2018, Apple Inc, the high tech giant, announced an investment of over USD 1 billion for the construction of a new project in Austin (Texas). Moreover, in April 2018, Google LLC showcased the construction of data center worth around USD 600 million that will highly involve construction vehicles supporting the off the road tires during the forecast timeframe.
Rising construction operations and projects in the Middle East & Africa region owing to the increasing support from foreign investors will propel the construction sector growth. China is one of the leading financers in African infrastructures along with construction through its supportive policies, including the Belt And Road Initiative (BRI). The proliferating construction industry across the globe considerably requires the use of construction vehicles embedded with off-road tires that will positively influence the global off-road tires industry expansion over the study period.
Mining operations require high usage of heavy-duty trucks for transportation activities in uneven terrain and extreme off-road conditions. Rising usage of off the road tires for heavy-duty vehicles for increased traction and high ability to sustain increased payload capacity will create a lucrative growth opportunity for the market during the projected timeframe. The increasing competition among fleet owners, along with a high focus on product features, has forced industry players for the adoption of measures that improve tire wear resistance, quality, and reliability. Some of the off-road tires play a vital role in increased vehicle fuel efficiency by reduced rolling resistance along with tire fatigue and support fleet owners with high-profit margins. Moreover, according to the National Research Council, rolling resistance of the truck tires accounts for over 32 % of power consumption for each hour required to move a heavy-duty truck. These factors will support the off the road tires market growth.
Industry player are engaged in new product launches and developments to cope up with the rising customer demand from the mining industry. For instance, in December 2018, JK Tyre and Industries Ltd announced the launch of mine champion E4/L4 OTR tire with high durability, strength, and load-carrying capacity. The product is specially designed for installation in wheel loaders and tipper trucks used for mining applications. Thus, the increasing product usage in commercial vehicles for the mining sector will accentuate the product share over the projected timeframe.
The multiple factors considered for the manufacturing process of off the road tires include tire construction, the material compound, tread design, size/dimensions, and weight. The operational efficiency and reliability of these tires substantially depend upon the raw material or the compound used for its production. However, the rising raw material prices required for the manufacturing off the road tires are limiting the product growth during the forecast period.
Tire manufacturing companies are continuously investing in developing tires that work efficiently with both internal and external factors, such as temperature, road surface, humidity, and raw materials. Industry players engage in importing raw material from foreign countries to maintain product quality and reliability and increase their customer base in the market. However, the rising tension in international trade is considerably affecting raw material prices. Countries, including the US and China, are some of the leading importers and exporters across the globe. The increasing trade disputes between the two countries is significantly stimulating the price hike for certain raw materials required in manufacturing off the road tires.
Government authorities mandate specific duties and taxes on import and export of raw materials to support the domestic supplier and increase their revenue generation. Moreover, the increasing transportation/OFF THE ROAD TIRES costs in several counties, along with labor costs, are also increasing the raw material pricing, further restricting off the road tires market share. Some of the raw materials, including rubber required for product manufacturing, are also sensitive to the changes in climatic conditions. They require a specific type of packaging for maintaining its quality, which also adds up to the pricing. Thus, these are the factors that will limit the global off the road market share during the forecast timeframe.
Economic Impact: Impact on Automotive Industry
With the continuous spread of the novel coronavirus spread across the world, automakers are taking extreme measures in the form of plant closures to halt the spread of COVID-19. The situation remains fluid as more European companies suspend work and the US automakers extend shutdown periods. The automakers' plans on North American production are an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus; however, currently the region is the global epicenter of the outbreak, with the daily number of confirmed cases outstripping the number in China. In the US and Canada, the response of government has been a combination of state or provincial, federal, and local measures. As in other regions, the countries' governments are applying seemingly ever-more stringent conditions on social interaction, travel, and workplace attendance. As is the case in other regions experiencing similar situations, this is having a marked effect on economy as well as society and causing massive economic disruption, with the automotive industry at the center of this turmoil.
The regional impacts of the pandemic outbreak are highly variable, but as it spreads, the current status in the harder hit areas provide a glimpse of what may be witnessed in the near future. China saw a 79% drop in the automotive market in February 2020. As a result, Chinese auto manufacturers have petitioned the government to stimulate the market through subsidies, tax breaks, and temporary reductions in emissions requirements. The initial epicenter of the global outbreak is Hubei province, which is one of the key regions of automotive production in China. Utilization within automotive plants in Hubei remains far below capacity, with many plants fully shut down, and the recovery process may require months to get back on track, post the outbreak. Impact on Automotive Production
In Europe, many of the automotive groups have shut most plants across the continent, effectively halting the entire supply chain for the time being. Retail activity is currently at a standstill, as many European countries have moved into full lockdown. EU-wide production losses due to factory shutdowns amount to at least 2,068,832 motor vehicles so far, which includes passenger cars, vans, trucks, buses, and coaches.
The original equipment manufacturers’ (OEM) production in the US has ground to a halt, with the “Big 3” OEMs (Ford, FCA, and GM), have agreed to temporarily halt production. On the retail side, OEMs are focusing on driving sales through financing incentives and other consumer-friendly offerings. A prolonged slowdown of retail sales is likely to have far-reaching impacts, as OEMs may struggle to meet demand due to capacity constraints once the market picks up. Moreover, as OEM production shuts down, the automotive supply chain is also closing, and suppliers do not have the ability to stockpile inventory. Impact on off the road tire Industry Impact on Supply Chain
All countries across globe are trying to make a fine balance between protecting health, minimizing economic and social disruption, and respecting human rights. The growing spread of corona virus leads to disruption in the markets. Restrictions to shipping and industrial production are affecting multiple supply chains. Distribution of components is the key process in manufacturing industries, which is facing challenges such as staffing of warehouses, a need for direct distribution and more intelligent and responsive allocation across channels due to pandemic which led to pressure on supply chains. The impact on the US and Europe from the disruptions will be significant, which will have huge effect in the world economy and badly disrupt global supply chains Impact on Raw Materials
Automotive manufacturing possesses complex process, with subcomponents required to assemble a single product which is sourced from several countries across the globe. The raw materials required to manufacture these subcomponents could also come from different countries and continents, and the finished products will again be transported all over the globe. Rubber is the main raw material used for production of OTR tires, the demand for raw rubber for processing is rapidly increasing. Some rubber processing plants that previously closed down are now opened up. The dependency on off the road tires make import, export of raw material and finished product more complex due to disruption in supply chain. Cash Flow Constraints
Supply chain disruptions have further created cash flow implications across the extended supply chain. SMEs are currently struggling for profitability, the companies which have low cash reserves are totally unstable. However, large scaled manufacturers still appear to be in good financial condition, but they are not sure, when the supply chain will return to normal condition. A decline in cash inflow resulted from the drop in demand, and majority of companies requires high working capital to remand in sync. On the other hand, demand for commercial vehicles is likely to be muted, as this segment is highly impacted by consumer purchasing power and economic/market sentiments. Thus, continued cash flow tightening will impact the automotive market further. Impact on World Trade
World trade is expected to witness fall between 12% to 30% in 2020 as the COVID 19 pandemic disrupts normal economic activity along with life around the world. The unavoidable declines in trade, production, and output will lead to painful consequences for businesses, on top of the human suffering caused by the disease itself.
According to the United Nations, the global economy is projected to contract by around 1% or more instead of registering 2.5% growth projected by the World Economic Situation and Prospects report 2020. The world economy contraction rate is expected to be more than 1% or possibly more than what was experienced in the global financial crisis in 2009 (i.e., ~2.5%) if the governments (in the developing as well as developed countries) fail to provide required income support and help lift consumer spending.
The restrictions on movement and promoting social distancing to slow the spread of the disease mean that transport, travel, and labour supply are today directly affected in ways they were not during the financial crisis in 2008-09. Whole sectors of national economies have been shut down, including construction, mining, restaurants, hotels, tourism, non-essential retail trade, and significant shares of manufacturing.
The COVID-19 coronavirus situation is evolving rapidly, creating considerable challenges to the system and causing disruptions to supply chain operations.
Near-term growth will likely concentrate in modular bioreactor lines and closed-system media workflows that shorten validation cycles while preserving batch traceability.
Partnerships between CDMOs and instrumentation vendors should accelerate standard datasets for comparability across sites, improving forecasting models used in capacity planning.
Longer horizon, organoid and microphysiological adoption may reshape segment mix; teams that invest early in assay interoperability and cloud QC hooks are better positioned to capture upside without fragmenting their analytics stack.

Balkrishna Industries Limited is the corporate vehicle behind the BKT tyre brand — an Indian off-highway tyre (OHT) specialist that has, over roughly four decades, converted a low-cost Indian manufacturing base into a globally distributed niche franchise. The company is not a general-purpose tyre maker. It is a focused producer of technically demanding, low-volume, high-SKU-count tyres for agricultural, construction, industrial, mining, port, forestry, turf-care and all-terrain-vehicle applications, sold predominantly through the replacement channel in more than 160 countries. Its economic model rests on three legs: labour-cost arbitrage against European and American incumbents; an extraordinarily wide catalogue (3,600-plus SKUs) that allows it to service small, uneconomic order lots which larger competitors decline; and deep backward integration into carbon black and captive power, which structurally lowers input cost and insulates margin. As of FY2026 the company is at an inflection: after a decade in which Europe supplied roughly half of revenue, India has become the single largest market by volume, and the company is deliberately diluting its off-highway purity by entering Indian on-highway truck-bus radial and passenger-car radial tyres — a strategically material bet that trades margin quality for growth runway. --- ### The company's own characterisation In the Directors' Report accompanying the 63rd Annual Report (FY2025), the board describes the business as follows: the company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of off-highway tyres, with the widest product range comprising more than 3,600 SKUs, having "made its mark in specialty segments like Agricultural, Mining, Construction, Industrial, Earthmover, Port, ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle), Rubber Tracks, and Turf care applications in both cross ply and radial construction." Company press material from February 2026 describes BKT as "an Indian MNC and a leading Off Highway Tyre manufacturer, headquartered in Mumbai," with "over 3,600 specialised products … serving customers across 163 countries," and notes that the company also manufactures rubber tracks for agricultural and industrial sectors. Since February 2026 the company has operated under a revised brand architecture, "BKT 2.0," comprising a corporate master brand ("BKT – Growing Together") and two commercial sub-brands: BKT Tyres – Elevate Your Drive, covering the combined off-highway and on-highway tyre portfolio, and BKT Carbon – Your Success, Our Priority, covering the carbon black and industrial materials business. ### Independent characterisation BKT is best understood as a specialty industrial consumables manufacturer with a distribution moat, not as a commodity tyre company. Four structural features define it: **(a) Niche-scale economics.** Off-highway tyres are characterised by extreme SKU fragmentation, long replacement cycles, and small order lots. A 57-inch mining radial and a turf-care tyre for a golf-course mower share almost no manufacturing commonality. Global incumbents (Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Titan) rationalise their catalogues around volume; BKT deliberately does the opposite, carrying a catalogue that grew from approximately 2,700 SKUs in FY2019 to more than 3,600 today. CRISIL identifies this as a core rating strength: BKT "is able to quickly cater to small niche order lots from clients, which permits for healthy profitability." **(b) Replacement-channel weighting.** In Q1 FY2027, the replacement channel accounted for 71.6% of sales, with OEM at 27.1%. This mix is the source of BKT's pricing resilience and of its margin premium versus OEM-heavy peers, but it also means demand is governed by farm income, commodity prices and equipment utilisation rather than by equipment build rates. **(c) Cost structure and backward integration.** Raw materials represent roughly 70% of production cost (CRISIL, February 2026), and approximately 50% of raw material is imported, principally natural and synthetic rubber and crude-linked inputs. BKT has responded by integrating backwards into carbon black — now at 360,000 MTPA including 30,000 MTPA of high-value advanced carbon materials — paired with 64 MW of co-generation capacity at Bhuj that runs on off-gas from the carbon black process. In FY2025, off-gas accounted for approximately 60% of total energy consumption. This is a genuine structural advantage: it converts a purchased input into an internally produced one, monetises the waste stream as power, and creates a saleable third-party product line that contributed roughly 10% of revenue in Q1 FY2027. **(d) Brand investment disproportionate to size.** BKT spends heavily on international sports sponsorship — official global partner of LaLiga, partnerships with Italian and French (Ligue 2) football, Big Bash League cricket in Australia, Indian cricket, European rugby (United Rugby Championship) and basketball, Monster Jam in the United States, and curling in Canada. For a company with roughly USD 1.2 billion of revenue, this is an unusually aggressive brand programme, and it is the mechanism by which a low-cost Indian manufacturer has repositioned itself as a credible premium alternative in Western replacement channels rather than a price-taker. ### Revenue model BKT is essentially 100% product revenue. There is no subscription, licensing or recurring-service revenue of material size. The one service-adjacent initiative is "YOU FORWARD," a 24×7 journey-assistance programme for Indian two-wheeler riders launched alongside the on-highway product entry — a customer-acquisition and brand-differentiation device rather than a revenue line. Revenue is generated across three commercial streams: ### Value chain position and customers BKT occupies the Tier-1 component supplier and independent aftermarket brand position simultaneously. Its OEM customer roster, disclosed in the Q1 FY2027 investor presentation, includes John Deere, AGCO, Case IH, New Holland Agriculture, CLAAS, Caterpillar, JCB and Kubota, among others. The company received Caterpillar's "Excellence Level" recognition under the Global Supplier Excellence Recognition programme for the fourth consecutive year. Customer types span: (i) global agricultural and construction OEMs; (ii) independent tyre distributors and wholesalers in Europe, the Americas and Asia; (iii) mining contractors and fleet operators; (iv) port and terminal operators; and, from 2026, (v) Indian consumer and commercial-fleet end users via a developing dealer network. End-markets served: row-crop and specialty agriculture, harvesting and forage, agricultural haulage, surface and underground mining, quarrying and aggregates, non-residential construction and earthmoving, container ports and intermodal terminals, materials handling and warehousing, forestry, municipal and turf maintenance, and powersports/ATV.

Michelin manufactures tires for cars, vans, trucks, buses, farm machinery, earthmovers, mining and handling equipment, tramways, metros, aircraft, motorcycles, scooters, and bicycles. It is highly focused on research and development activities, for which it invested USD 725 million in 2017. Michelin North America is one of the major subsidiaries of Michelin for the production of green tires. It operates through 19 plants in 16 locations, across the country, and employs 22,000 people. The company offers green tires that provide low rolling resistance and improved fuel efficiency for passenger cars and trucks. Some of the green tires produced by Michelin help save as much as 1 liter of fuel and 2.66 kilograms of CO2 per 100 kilometers, without compromising on tire durability.
Trelleborg AB has grown into a global engineering group specializing in polymer-based sealing, damping, and protective solutions. The company operates across more than 40 countries with manufacturing and application engineering facilities strategically positioned to serve heavy equipment and utility vehicle OEMs in Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific. Its Trelleborg Wheel Systems business unit — subsequently divested to Yokohama Rubber in 2023 — historically anchored the company's presence in agricultural and construction machinery, while the remaining group continues to supply critical engineered components to off-highway and utility vehicle platforms through its Industrial Solutions and Sealing Solutions divisions. Within the heavy Equipment and Utility Vehicles Market, Trelleborg supplies anti-vibration mounts, hydraulic seals, structural seals, and engineered polymer components that are integrated into construction machinery, municipal utility vehicles, forestry equipment, and material handling platforms. The company's sealing systems address demanding operating conditions — high pressure, extreme temperature, and exposure to hydraulic fluids — that are characteristic of excavators, wheel loaders, aerial work platforms, and refuse collection vehicles. Trelleborg competes directly with Parker Hannifin, Freudenberg, and SKF in sealing and vibration management, differentiating through application-specific engineering support and a broad material science portfolio spanning PTFE, polyurethane, and specialty elastomers. Following the 2023 divestiture of Trelleborg Wheel Systems to Yokohama Rubber for approximately SEK 20.4 billion, Trelleborg refocused its capital allocation toward higher-margin sealing and industrial solutions segments. The proceeds funded bolt-on acquisitions and R&D investment in fluid power sealing and structural bonding technologies directly applicable to electrified utility vehicles and hybrid construction equipment — segments where OEMs require new sealing architectures to accommodate battery enclosures and revised hydraulic circuits. Trelleborg has also expanded its partnership network with Tier 1 hydraulic system integrators to embed its sealing components earlier in the design cycle for next-generation utility platforms. Trelleborg's sealing and anti-vibration components are specified by major construction and utility vehicle OEMs including Volvo CE, Caterpillar, Komatsu, and JCB, as well as municipal vehicle manufacturers across Europe. The company reported group net sales of SEK 31.0 billion for full-year 2024, with the Industrial Solutions segment — which encompasses heavy equipment applications — contributing a meaningful share of that revenue base. Trelleborg's sustained investment in application engineering centers co-located with key OEM clusters in Germany, the United States, and China reinforces its position as a preferred sealing and vibration management supplier across the utility and high equipment vehicle value chain.
