The Zero Energy Building Market market is projected to reach $22.66B by 2025, growing at 12.4% CAGR. The non residential segment holds the largest share.
Nowadays, the zero-energy building (ZEB) concept is gaining popularity with an increase in numerous initiatives by the infrastructure and development organizations, across the globe. For instance, the International Energy Agency, has started a joint research program “Towards Net Zero Energy Solar Buildings” with 18 countries to increase the popularity of zero-energy buildings across the world. Since zero-energy buildings form one of the best ways for energy conservation, their introduction has led to the improvement of environmental, economic, and social position in certain regions. This has led to the growing adoption of zero-energy building solutions among the residential and non-residential end users, resulting in significant growth for zero-energy buildings, globally.
Technology providers which includes integrators and builders, are engaged in zero-energy building solutions are focused on promoting sustainable development with resilient building designs. However, zero-energy buildings demand one-time investment with high replacement rate of integrated panels for solar, geothermal, wind and other energy sources. Also, zero-energy building is an effective model for innovation, as it utilizes naturally occurring assets for applications, such as natural ventilation, passive solar orientation, thermal mass, daylighting, and night hours cooling. Additionally, with continuous innovation and advancement in zero-energy building technology, specifications are tailored by the organizations accordingly in order to promote adoption of zero-energy building. For instance, Johnson Control Plc, has been developing zero energy building solutions.
Increasing environmental concerns, stringent regulations for building codes, and heavy investments to conserve natural energy, result in an increase in the adoption rate of zero-energy building solutions. Therefore, the impact of the sustainable approach of zero-energy building construction on the global zero-energy building market is expected to remain high during the forecast period.
The growth in urban population has led to various environmental problems in urban areas and suburbs, due to the need for infrastructure to support the high demand for food, water, and power. According to the World Green Building Council, the construction projects all over the world have grown significantly in the last few years. Thus, the demand for zero-energy buildings is poised to grow in the midterm forecast period. The concerns regarding minimizing the energy consumption, add to the growth of zero-energy building construction, across the globe. Zero-energy buildings help reduce carbon footprint of a building by filtering pollutants and carbon dioxide coupled with various other environmental benefits. Therefore, the growing environmental concerns and the inclination of individuals to adopt green buildings, have led to the growing demand for zero-energy building (ZEB) construction. Zero-energy building construction increases the resale value of a property.
Increasing information about environmental and social impact of their buildings among architects & construction companies has brought about a surge in sustainable building technologies and construction. Zero-energy building or net zero-energy building not only brings down the operational costs but also increases the property value. Such buildings lower operating costs and energy bills as well as it they provide isolation from increasing high energy prices, which lead to their increased property values. Moreover, resale values of zero-energy buildings are generally greater and reduced total cost of ownership due to improved energy efficiency and allows building owners to charge higher rents. Such benefits are expected to increase the construction of zero energy building market during the forecast period. Thus, the impact of the growing demand for zero-energy building solutions on the global zero-energy building market is expected to shift from moderate to high over the forecast period.
Sustainability is becoming one of the prime concerns in construction to achieve social and environmental benefits and lower negative environmental impacts. Developing countries play an important role in achieving sustainable growth in two vital ways.
Firstly, the potential economic and social impacts of environmental degradation play a vital role in developing countries, creating lucrative opportunities for waste energy management techniques. Secondly, the emerging economies lack the technological advancements related to the zero energy building solutions further leading to the scope for growth.
Moreover, the emerging economies such as India and China depend on advanced the economies such as the US and Germany for the export of solid municipal waste. The construction of zero energy buildings will enable the recycling and reuse of such wastes without being exported and eliminate dependence on the developed countries. Therefore, zero-energy building play an important role in enhancing sustainability.
The construction of such buildings provides large-scale benefits, not only including its geothermal advantage, and enhanced air quality and lighting, but also increasing the share zero energy buildings in private construction.
Therefore, the scope for growth in emerging economies that ensure various benefits for architects, developers, and economies are expected to create an opportunity for the global market players.
The most prominent hurdle for global zero-energy building market is the regulatory framework for the construction of zero-energy buildings across the globe. In November 2011, certifications by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI) developed zero-energy building certification which will monitor the entire design and specification of the building all over the world. Challenges in certification application and permission include alternative rating systems, excess of submissions leading to extensive backlogs, and an increase in construction cost and government budgets. These may prevent an immediate or satisfying benefits of the construction, affecting energy efficiency.
The delay in obtaining certifications is attributed to the lack of certified professionals and expertise to enable the assembly of all components used in zero-energy buildings such as ventilation control, lighting control, temperature control, and abundant daylighting.
The complications in the deployment of the zero-energy building solutions along with the lack of skilled professionals along creates a high impact of the restraint on the market. However, with the rising awareness regarding energy efficiency, various developments by the providers, and the growing construction and information of zero-energy buildings, the skills required to gain permissions for the integration and operations of zero- energy buildings are expected to increase in the coming years. Therefore, the impact of certification and permits on the global zero energy buildings market is expected to shift from high to moderate over the forecast period.
Near-term growth will likely concentrate in modular bioreactor lines and closed-system media workflows that shorten validation cycles while preserving batch traceability.
Partnerships between CDMOs and instrumentation vendors should accelerate standard datasets for comparability across sites, improving forecasting models used in capacity planning.
Longer horizon, organoid and microphysiological adoption may reshape segment mix; teams that invest early in assay interoperability and cloud QC hooks are better positioned to capture upside without fragmenting their analytics stack.

Showing 102 of 102 companies
Company Headquarters: Ireland Founded: 1966 Workforce: ~13,500 Company Working: Kingspan Group is one of the leading providers of sustainable building solutions across the world. It operates through five product segments, namely, insulated panels, access floor, environmental, insulation boards, and light and air. The light and air segment offer a range of daylighting and energy-efficient lighting, as well as natural ventilation and smoke management solutions. The company sells net-zero energy products under this segment. Its products have applications in the commercial & industrial, residential, and office & data sectors. The company operates in two end use groups, namely, new build and refurbishment. It has completed several projects to improve the energy-efficiency in several manufacturing sites. The company has 129 manufacturing facilities and a presence in more than 70 countries worldwide.
Daikin Industries is the world's largest pure-play air-conditioning company and the only global HVAC manufacturer that also produces the refrigerants and fluorochemicals its equipment depends upon. Founded in Osaka in 1924, it crossed ¥5 trillion in revenue for the first time in FY2025 (¥5,015.0 billion, operating profit ¥415.0 billion), with 84% of sales generated outside Japan across more than 170 countries and over 130 production sites. Its franchise rests on three proprietary technology pillars — inverters, heat pumps and refrigerant control — combined with in-house production of compressors, motors, circuit boards and refrigerants, a "local production for local consumption" manufacturing model, and dense dealer and service networks. Daikin holds the No. 1 share in Japan, Europe and North American residential unitary, and is scaling a data-center cooling franchise in the US. The investment debate centers on whether the new FUSION 30 plan can lift operating margin from 8.3% toward U.S.-peer levels. --- ### What the company does Daikin designs, manufactures, sells, installs and services heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC-R) equipment for residential, commercial and industrial customers, and manufactures fluorochemicals (fluorocarbon refrigerant gases, fluoropolymers, fluoroelastomers and fine chemicals). It also runs smaller oil-hydraulics, defense-systems and electronics businesses. The company describes itself in the Integrated Report 2026 as the world's only comprehensive air-conditioning manufacturer that handles both air conditioners and refrigerants, and states that it has grown by concentrating on the air-conditioning and fluorochemicals businesses since its founding. ### Company's own characterization (latest report) The Integrated Report 2026 frames the mission around rising global cooling demand: the company notes that air conditioning is estimated to account for roughly 10% of world electricity use and cites International Energy Agency projections that energy demand for space cooling could triple by 2050 versus 2015, positioning heat-pump, inverter and refrigerant-control technologies as Daikin's contribution to decarbonization. The report identifies five accumulated strengths: energy-saving and environmental technologies (inverters, refrigerants, heat pumps), indoor-air-quality technologies, global sales and service networks, market-oriented local production, and "People-Centered Management" with flat and fast organizational management. ### Value-chain position Daikin is unusually vertically integrated for an HVAC OEM: it develops and manufactures compressors, motors, printed circuit boards and refrigerants in-house (Integrated Report 2026, "Vertically integrated production"), assembles finished equipment in regional plants, and increasingly owns downstream channels — dealer networks, manufacturers' representatives, instrumentation/engineering firms and service companies (FUSION 30; Chairman's message, Integrated Report 2026). In FUSION 30 it announced intent to commercialize its compressors as merchant products sold to other HVAC makers, a further upstream extension. ### Independent characterization Daikin is best understood as a global, multi-regional HVAC equipment franchise transitioning — later than U.S. peers — from volume-driven equipment sales to lifecycle solutions, with an attached high-margin specialty chemicals business that is cyclically exposed to semiconductor capex. Its core advantage is cost-competitive, regionally customized product breadth across every climate zone; its core weakness is that a growing share of its volume sits in commoditizing residential categories where Chinese competitors (Midea, Gree, Haier) now compete on quality as well as price, and its U.S. operations (Goodman-derived residential and McQuay-derived applied) earn roughly half the margin of Trane or Carrier's commercial businesses.
Headquarters: California, US Founded: 1985 Workforce: Approximately 7,306 Company Working: SunPower Corporation is engaged in the business of crystalline silicon solar photovoltaic cells and solar panels. SunPower Corporation is also involved in research and development, and supply of solar power solutions, globally. The company operates in three main segments, namely residential, commercial, and power plants. For over three decades, SunPower Corporation solar panels generated around 18,000,000-megawatt hour (MWh) of solar power, globally and holds more than 750 patents for solar technology. SunPower Corporation offers commercial rooftop and ground-mounted solar power systems, residential mounting systems, and power plant systems, as well as utility-scale photovoltaic power plants. In addition to that, the company offers operations and maintenance services and outage restoration services. The company has prevalence in countries such as the US, Japan, and the UK and in Philippines. In 2011, SunPower Corporation became a subsidiary of global oil and gas giant, Total Energies Nouvelles Activités, USA, which bought the majority stake in the company to become a major player in the solar power industry. Also, SunPower has subsidiaries such as SunPower Malaysia Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd, SunPower Philippines Manufacturing Limited, and SunPower Technology Ltd. It competes with companies such as Trina Solar, Canadian Solar Inc., JA Solar Holdings, Yingli Solar, and Abengoa Solar.
Honeywell Technologies is the automation core left after the most aggressive portfolio reshaping in Honeywell's 120-year history. It is a ~USD 20 bn-revenue business organised into three segments: - **Building Automation (BA):** fire, security and building-management products plus building solutions and services. - **Process Automation & Technology (PA&T):** Experion control systems, UOP process licensing and catalysts, LNG heat-exchange technology, and the newly acquired Johnson Matthey Catalyst Technologies. - **Industrial Automation (IA):** sensing, gas detection, industrial measurement and utilities solutions. Management's thesis is that a large installed base in mission-critical sites can be monetised through software (Honeywell Forge), services and outcome-based contracts, steering the company from "automation to autonomy." The company also holds a ~48% voting stake in Quantinuum (Nasdaq: QNT), worth billions at market. It enters FY2027 with a three-year target framework of 4–6% organic growth, more than 60 bps of annual margin expansion and double-digit EPS growth. --- **Company self-description.** The FY2025 10-K described Honeywell as an integrated operating company serving a broad range of industries and geographies. Its portfolio rested on the Honeywell Accelerator operating system and the Honeywell Forge platform. Four reportable segments existed at that time: Aerospace Technologies, Industrial Automation, Building Automation, and Energy & Sustainability Solutions. Post-spin boilerplate (Q2-2026 release) describes Honeywell Technologies as a global pure-play automation company serving the building, industrial and process sectors. It operates through: - the Honeywell Technologies Accelerator operating system, and - the Honeywell Technologies Forge "intelligence layer." It states that combining more than 50,000 employees' domain expertise with decades of installed-base data positions it to lead the transition from automation to autonomy. **Business model.** Honeywell Technologies sells four kinds of offering: 1. **Engineered products:** fire panels, detectors, access-control hardware, sensors, gas detectors, transmitters, pumps and compressors (Sundyne), and catalysts and adsorbents. 2. **Systems and projects:** distributed control systems (DCS), safety systems, building-management systems, LNG liquefaction trains (coil-wound heat exchangers), utilities and metering projects. 3. **Services:** lifecycle and aftermarket services, maintenance contracts, upgrades and migrations. 4. **Licensing and software:** UOP process-technology licences, Forge/Niagara software, OT cybersecurity. **Revenue mix.** - **Product vs service (consolidated, pre-spin, FY2025):** product sales USD 24,515 m (65.5%) and service sales USD 12,927 m (34.5%) (Q4-2025 8-K). - **Q2-2026 consolidated:** products USD 6,374 m and services USD 3,345 m (34.4% services). - **Subscription/software:** not separately quantified in filings. Management reported ~15% Forge software ARR growth on the Q2-2026 call (aggregator transcript summary). It targets services plus software rising toward ~45% of revenue over the three-year plan (Investor Day remarks, aggregator transcript; not stated in the formal release). - **Licensing:** UOP licence fees sit within PA&T and are not separately disclosed. **Value-chain position.** Honeywell sits between component suppliers (semiconductors, electronics, metals, rare-earths, precious metals for catalysts) and end-owners/operators: refiners, LNG developers, petrochemical producers, building owners, data-centre operators, utilities and industrial OEMs. In process markets it is often the main automation contractor or licensor. That role gives it early specification influence and decades-long aftermarket annuities: catalyst reloads, control-system migrations and spare parts. **Customer types and end-markets.** - **BA:** commercial real estate, data centres, healthcare, hospitality, airports, government, education. Sold through distributors, system integrators and direct channels. - **PA&T:** refining, petrochemicals, LNG, chemicals, renewable fuels (SAF and renewable diesel via UOP Ecofining), hydrogen, ammonia and methanol (JM CT), pulp and paper, mining, life sciences. - **IA:** discrete and process manufacturers, utilities, aerospace and defence OEMs (sensing), oil and gas safety (gas detection), battery energy storage (Li-ion Tamer). **Independent characterisation.** After 2026, Honeywell Technologies is best understood as three businesses: - **BA:** a ~USD 8 bn, high-margin (~27%) fire, security and building-controls franchise with real secular tailwinds from data centres. - **PA&T:** a ~USD 7 bn process franchise. Its economics are driven by large-project cycles (LNG, refining) and lumpy catalyst shipments, so margins swing with mix. - **IA:** a ~USD 6 bn smaller, lower-margin (~17%) set of sensing and safety businesses. It was the main source of the 2025 goodwill impairment and is what remains after the PSS, WWS and PPE exits. The equity story rests on raising organic growth from the low single digits of 2024–25 to mid-single digits, while expanding margins from a ~20% base.
Nouryon is a carve-out specialty chemicals platform built from the former specialty chemicals arm of AkzoNobel and owned since 2018 by Carlyle and GIC. It manufactures performance ingredients and process chemicals — surfactants, chelates, cellulose ethers, organic peroxides, metal alkyls, colloidal silica, expandable microspheres, chromatography media and pulp-bleaching chemicals — that customers use to make consumer and industrial products. Revenue is roughly $5.1bn, generated through roughly 63 plants and sold in more than 80 countries. Its competitive identity rests on a portfolio of global or regional leadership positions in niche, technically demanding chemistries (Expancel®, Kromasil®, Levasil®, Bermocoll®, Dissolvine®), long-term integrated supply contracts with pulp mills, and a disciplined, Axalta-style private-equity operating model under CEO Charlie Shaver. The investment debate centres on high adjusted EBITDA margins (~22.5%) and solid free cash flow set against heavy leverage (~5.0x), recurring IPO deferrals and cyclic exposure to polymer and pulp markets. --- ### What the company does Nouryon produces specialty and performance chemicals that enter customer formulations or manufacturing processes as functional ingredients, catalysts, initiators or process aids. The company itself characterises its output as "essential solutions" that customers use to manufacture everyday products in attractive end-markets, and it describes the business in its fact sheet as a global specialty chemicals leader operating in more than 80 countries with a portfolio of industry-leading brands (Nouryon company fact sheet). In its 2025 sustainability report the company frames growth as coming from innovating safer, more efficient and more sustainable chemistry for customers (Nouryon 2025 Sustainability Report release, 7 May 2026). ### Company's own description (paraphrased from latest public materials) Nouryon presents itself as a global specialty chemicals leader whose products are used in personal care, cleaning goods, paints and coatings, agriculture and food, pharmaceuticals, building products, polymers, pulp and paper, oil and gas, and mining. Since the Q3 2024 reorganisation it organises around three segments — Consumer & Life Sciences, Performance Materials and Resource Solutions — and six business units (FY2024 results release, 7 Mar 2025). ### Independent characterisation Nouryon is best understood as a portfolio of ~30–40 mid-sized niche chemistry franchises sharing a common manufacturing, procurement and commercial backbone. Roughly three economic archetypes coexist: 1. **Formulated consumer ingredients** (surfactants, chelates, cellulose ethers, polymers for home & personal care, agro adjuvants, micronutrients): moderate cyclicality, sticky qualification, pricing tied to raw materials (ethylene oxide, fatty amines, cellulose). 2. **Polymer process chemistry** (organic peroxides, metal alkyls, PVC reactor additives): technically demanding, hazardous-materials handling acts as a barrier to entry; volumes track polyolefin and PVC operating rates, notably in China. 3. **Resource / pulp chemistry** (sodium chlorate, chlorine dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, mining and oilfield chemicals): energy-intensive and contract-based, with 10–15-year integrated "chemical island" supply agreements for pulp mills, especially in South America. ### Value chain position Nouryon sits mid-stream: it buys base chemicals and energy (ethylene, ethylene oxide, fatty raw materials, salt/chlor-alkali derivatives — some from sister company Nobian — cellulose, aluminium, electricity), converts them into functional intermediates, and sells to formulators and manufacturers (consumer goods companies, paint makers, polymer producers, pulp mills, agrochemical formulators, pharma manufacturers). Distribution partners include IMCD and Brenntag Specialties for selected regions and lines.
3M is a US-based diversified industrial technology company that turns a shared base of materials science (adhesives, abrasives, films, nonwovens, ceramics, optics and filtration) into tens of thousands of products for industrial, safety, transportation, electronics and consumer markets. After the April 2024 spin-off of Solventum and the completion of its exit from PFAS manufacturing at the end of 2025, it is a smaller, more focused company with about USD 25 billion of sales, 108 manufacturing sites and roughly 60,500 employees. Under Chairman and CEO William Brown, who joined in May 2024, the investment case has shifted from managing legal liabilities to operational self-help: faster new-product output, better service levels, footprint simplification and portfolio pruning. Adjusted operating margin has risen from 21.4% in FY2024 to 23.4% in FY2025, with a target of about 25% by 2027. Legacy PFAS and Combat Arms payment obligations still absorb a large share of cash flow and remain the main risk. --- **Company's own description.** The FY2025 10-K describes 3M as "a diversified technology company with a global presence" in three businesses: Safety and Industrial, Transportation and Electronics, and Consumer. It says most products draw on expertise in product development, manufacturing and marketing and face competition from other technology-oriented companies. In press releases the company describes itself as applying science to create customer-focused solutions, using diverse technology platforms, a global footprint and operational excellence. **Independent characterisation.** 3M is best understood as a materials-science platform company with a very wide catalogue, not as a classic conglomerate of unrelated businesses. A common set of core technologies (the company cites 49 technology platforms, per the 3M India FY2025-26 annual report) is recombined into products across unrelated end-markets. That gives 3M high gross margins and specification-based stickiness with customers, but it also creates complexity: tens of thousands of SKUs, more than a hundred plants, and a history of weak service performance. Current management is trying to keep the technology advantage while removing the complexity cost. **Business model.** 3M designs, manufactures and sells physical products. Revenue comes overwhelmingly from product sales. The company does not disclose a product, service, subscription or licensing split, and services and royalties are not material at group level (split not publicly disclosed). There is modest post-separation income from supply and transition-service agreements with Solventum, reported in Corporate and Other (USD 372 million of sales in FY2025). **Revenue model features.** - A large share of sales is consumable or repeat-purchase product (abrasives, tapes, respirators, filters, cleaning products, stationery), giving a recurring demand profile without contractual subscriptions. - Many industrial and transportation products are "specified in" to a customer design (for example an automotive platform or an electronic device), which locks in volume for the life of the programme. - Pricing is list-price based with distributor and retailer discounts. Specific pricing is not publicly disclosed. **Value chain position.** 3M sits mostly in the middle of the chain as a maker of engineered materials and components (tier-two or tier-three supplier to OEMs), and at the end of the chain as a branded finished-goods supplier in safety and consumer products. It is partly vertically integrated in key inputs such as mineral granules, some resins, films and adhesives. **Distribution.** Products are sold directly to users and through e-commerce and traditional wholesalers, retailers, jobbers, distributors and dealers (FY2025 10-K).
